SVSB @ Webster City
The Jaguar softball team dropped their last regular season game against the Webster City Lynx by a score of 3-4 after 6 ½ innings of play Monday night in Webster City. The loss brings Southeast Valley’s varsity softball team to an overall record of 16 wins and nine losses on the season.
The Jags would jump on the board in the first inning resulting from a leadoff single off the bat of senior shortstop Ellie Nolte. Nolte would advance to second base after a wild pitch got by the Lynx catcher. Chloe Lambert would bring Nolte around to plate the first run of the game and give the Jags a 1-0 advantage after the first half inning. The lead would be short lived as the Lynx would score one of their own, knotting the score at one a piece for both Southeast Valley and Webster City. The second inning would be a quick one and quiet one seeing nobody score for either team, but in the third, the Jags would regain their lead after scoring two runs. Ellie Nolte and Camryn Lane would each reach base in the third following an error by the Lynx shortstop and a single to the right side of the diamond. Nolte stood on third (after reaching second on another passed ball and advancing to third on Lane’s single) and Lane stealing second put two runners in scoring position for senior Jordyn Rowley. Rowley delivered a two run double over the center fielder’s head to put the Jaguars back in front, however, the Lynx would again answer scoring two runs to tie the game once again after two defensive errors by the Jags. Unfortunately the Jags would not be able to produce another run for the remainder of the game despite having base runners in scoring position in each of their last three offensive innings. Webster City would score the winning run in the fourth inning on back to back hits giving the Jaguars the 3-4 loss.
In the circle the duo of Chloe Lambert and Rian Schlief had an impressive showing, working together to retire a combined eight of 29 batters via strikeout while giving up only eight hits, two earned runs (one a piece) and just three walks on the night.
The Jaguars look to build off of the lessons learned in this loss and start new on Thursday night in their opening round of tournament play. Southeast Valley takes on Cherokee Washington in a home matchup in Harcourt on Thursday night starting at seven o’clock.
