Jags Stumble in Tournament Play

July 6, 2022

The Southeast Valley softball team lost in the class 3A regional quarterfinal against the Greene County Rams on Wednesday night by a score of 3-; with the loss, the softball season came to a close and the team recorded 14 wins and 11 losses over the summer.

Cold bats combined with defensive errors were the achilles heel for the Jags on the night.

The Rams would strike first in the first inning. The inning started with a leadoff double by the Greene County center fielder. She would be moved around to third and scored on back to back bunts and one Jaguar defensive error. In the top of the third inning, the Rams would add to their total by scoring two runs, taking advantage of two more Southeast Valley errors.

Offensively, the bats would not get hot. The Jags threatened with baserunners throughout the night, but the one and only run pushed across the board came in the seventh inning when Camryn Lane (running for Chloe Lambert) scored on a Greene County passed ball. Freshman Lauren Eslick would record the only hit of the game for the Jags, laying down a bunt in the sixth and reaching first safely.

Junior Maddie Vansickle got the start on the mound and faced 19 batters, giving up just three hits, zero walks, and three runs (1 ER) while striking out five. Chloe Lambert came to the mound in relief during the fifth inning and faced 12 batters. During her time on the mound she gave up zero walks, zero runs, and struck out three.
