SVSB vs. Humboldt
Southeast Valley Softball Defeats in Season Opener:
The Southeast Valley softball team opened their 2025 campaign by putting a W in the win column, defeating the visiting Wildcats from Humboldt by a score of 8-1 in seven complete innings of play.
The Jaguars jumped on the board quick in the first inning, scoring 2 right away. 8th grade third baseman Karley Rae Smith started the game with a lead off walk followed by a line drive double off the bat of junior left fielder Camryn Lane.
In the second, the Jags would add to their lead, upping the score 3-0 when junior center fielder Riley Carlson came home on a single laced up the middle by senior Chloe Lambert.
The third and fourth innings would be quiet for the Jaguars on offense meanwhile the Wildcats would manage to plate one run in the third inning, but Southeast Valley answered back with another run on the board bringing the score to 4-1.
In the sixth, the Jaguars would bust open the score and slam the door on the contest, bringing four more runs in to seal the 8-1 victory over a talented Humboldt team.
Offensively the Jags were shining, lead behind the bats of senior catcher Lauren Eslick who was 2-3 with two hits and two RBIs and sophomore Danielle Bethel who showed out at the plate going an impressive 3-4 with 3 RBIs.
The offense was impressive and the defense was perfect for Southeast Valley. The Wildcats put the ball in play 21 times and had a total of 11 base runners, but it wouldn’t matter. The Jaguar defense stood poised and perfect, not committing a single error in the field. The junior trio of Camryn Lane (left field), Riley Carlson (center), and Brooke Peterson (right field) proved to be a mountain too tall for the Humboldt offense to climb making one impressive play after another.
Senior pitcher Chloe Lambert shined in the circle, throwing a complete seven innings against Wildcats. Lambert faced 32 batters, striking out three and giving up one earned run.
