SV SB vs. St. Mary's

The Jaguar softball team earned another run-rule victory at home on Friday night. Southeast Valley got the win over Storm Lake Saint Mary’s by a score of 10-0 after six innings of play.

The Jags started scoring right away in the first inning. Kenna Scott got on base by walk followed by a double off the bat of Ellie Nolte. On a wild pitch, Scott would score the first run of the game. Ellie Nolte would quickly follow after a double hit square off the bat of senior leader Maddie Vansickle.

The Jags would go down quietly in the second, third, and fourth innings, but the ball found the gaps again in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth inning, Jordyn Rowley would get a double and eventually come in to score off a single hit hard up the middle by Alex Kitchen. Kitchen would use her wheels around the bases to score as a result of a double roped to the left center gap by Rian Schlief. Rian Schlief would score on an RBI slap hit from sophomore Anna Corell. In the seventh, the bats stayed hot when Kenna Scott led things off with a double for herself. Nolte would reach first after being hit by a pitch and Maddie Vansickle would again reach base, getting a single. Kenna Scott would score on a defensive miscue by the Panther defense and Nolte and Camryn Lane (running for Vansickle) would come in to score on a hard hit single from Alex Kitchen. Rian Schlief would score Kitchen as a result of another double off her bat. After Schlief stole third on a wild pitch, Anna Corell would hit a single of her own to score Schlief from third and end the game by mercy rule.

On the defensive side of the ball, Maddie Vansickle shined in the circle. Vansickle pitched all six innings and faced 28 batters. She struck out five while allowing the defense behind her to do the rest, forcing the Panthers to hit pop-ups and grounders right at them.

The Jags are now 9-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Southeast Valley softball picks things up on Monday in Newell for another conference matchup with the Newell Fonda Mustangs.
