Jags Sweep Doubleheader

June 16, 2022

Southeast Valley hosted Clarion Goldfield Dows and East Sac County for a varsity double header in Harcourt on Thursday night in Harcourt, where they picked up two more wins on the season.

The action started against the Cowgirls from Clarion Goldfield Dows at 5:30 with freshman Chloe Lambert putting on a show on the mound. Lambert threw six complete innings, facing 24 batters and striking out three while walking zero and allowing just two hits. Her defense behind her took care of any offensive threats the Cowgirls posed.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Jaguars jumped on the board early in the first inning scoring two runs. Sophomores Ellie Nolte and Jordyn Rowley in the first. Nolte lead the inning off with a walk and advanced to second on a hit by Kenna Scott. Nolte would score as a result of a double hit by Rowley. Junior Maddie Vansickle would hit a double of her own, driving in Rowley. Nolte and Scott would both score in the third inning, bringing the Jags to a 4-0 lead in the third inning. The fourth inning brought more hits and more runs across the plate for the Jaguars. Sophomore Alex Kitchen started the inning with a bang, roping a triple down the right field line, later scoring on a single hit by Chloe Lambert. With a runner on, freshman Lauren Eslick stepped into the box and launched one over the left-center fence. Over the next two innings, Southeast Valley would score six more runs, taking advantage of errors made by the Cowgirl defense combined with big hits from Jordyn Rowley and Rian Schlief.

In the end, the Jags would get the win over the Cowgirls 14-4 in run rule fashion.

In their second contest of the night the Jaguars would face the Raiders from East Sac County for a conference matchup.

Junior Maddie Vansickle got the start and put in work on the mound, facing 21 batters in four innings of play. Vansickle gave up six hits and struck out six while only allowing one run to be scored by the Raiders.

Offensively, the Jags stayed hot at the plate. Ellie Nolte got things going in the first when she doubled to the left-center gap, stealing third on a pass ball. Jordyn Rowley would score Nolte from third, clearing them for Maddie Vansickle to step up to the plate with two outs on the board. That wouldn’t be enough to rain on the Jags’ offensive parade in the first; Vansickle would single, followed by a pair of back-to-back singles from Rian Schlief and Alex Kitchen. Freshman Anna Correll (running for Vansickle), Schlief, Kitchen, and freshman Chloe Lambert would all score in the first inning. The Jaguar offense kept rolling into the second, Sophomore Kenna Scott and Maddie Vansickle would both reach on singles and score on defensive miscues made by the Raider defense. The third inning would bring four more runs across in the Jaguars’ favor. Sophomore Leilah Olson and freshman Lauren Eslick walked to put runners on first and second. Nolte would score Camryn Lane (running for Olson) and sophomore Kenna Scott would drop a dime bunt to the left side, scoring Eslick and she would reach first safely. After stealing second, Scott would be brought in from a double hit by Jordyn Rowley.

The Jaguars would pick up their second run-rule win of the evening after four innings of play, taking this conference game by a score of 13-1.
