Jaguar Softball Team Hosted the 2nd Ranked (1A) Mustangs

June 20, 2022
The Jaguar softball team hosted the 2nd ranked (1A) Mustangs in Harcourt on Monday night for a JV and varsity contest. The Jags fell to the Mustangs 10-1 after seven innings of play.
Newell Fonda would score first in their half of the first inning after Newell Fonda’s Mia Walker roped a double to left-center. In the second, the Jags would hold the Mustangs scoreless in the second. In the third and fourth innings, the Mustangs would plate eight runs on six hits while taking advantage of errors committed by the Southeast Valley defense.
Junior Maddie Vansickle got the start in the circle and faced 25 batters. During Vansickle’s time on the mound, the Mustangs would score nine runs, just five of them earned. Freshman Chloe Lambert stepped into the circle during the fourth inning and faced 13 batters. Lambert fanned three, not allowing any earned runs to score.
Offensively, the Jags faced a tough challenge in Newell Fonda’s Kierra Jungers. Jungers would strike out 16 Jaguar bats, but not without the Jags scoring one in the fourth. Jordyn Rowley earned her way on base after slicing a double down the left field line and advancing to third on a passed ball. Maddie Vansickle would walk to put runners on the corners and eighth grader Rian Schlief stepped up to the plate laying down a sacrifice bunt. Schlief’s RBI bunt would score what would be the Jag’s only run of the game, in Rowley.
The Jags look to avenge this loss on Wednesday when they travel to Ruthven to take on the GTRA Titans for a big conference matchup. Overall, Southeast Valley sits at 10-7 and 7-1 in Twin Lakes Conference play.
