Jags Play Well, Lose 0-1

The Jaguar softball team welcomed the Gaels from St. Edmonds for a home contest on a beautiful night for softball.

Southeast Valley came out ready to compete behind the dynamic duo of junior Maddie Vansickle and freshman pitcher Chloe Lambert. The defense would hold strong through the third inning allowing just one run stemming from a string of hits by the Gael offense. Lambert got the start and would face 15, fanning three and allowing just one hit. Vansickle entered the circle in the top of the fifth and faced 14, striking out three and walking zero, giving up just one hit. The left side proved to be the strong side with sophomore shortstop, Ellie Nolte and freshman third baseman, Lauren Eslick combining for 12 of the team’s total 21 outs.

Defensively, the Jaguars were stellar, but the offense could not get rolling. Facing a very talented pitcher in the circle for St. Eds proved to be a challenge for the bats of Southeast Valley. Sophomore Kenna Scott would reach base in all three of her at bats with a base hit and two walks, stealing the no hitter from the Gaels. The Jags proved they would not go down without a fight, leaving runners on in every inning of the contest, however timely hits were lacking.

Southeast Valley softball lost this nail biter, however, the energy and effort were there and will carry them through their busy week ahead. The Jags are now sitting with one win and five losses. They will be back in action Wednesday night in Peterson against the Rebels from Sioux Central.
