Jags End Regular Season, Look Forward to Tournament Play

July 1, 2022

Jaguar softball hosted the #7 ranked Eagles from Saydel in Harcourt on Friday night, concluding regular season play. The Jags lost the contest 5-10.

Chloe Lambert started on the mound for the Jags and threw four innings facing 24 batters, allowing seven hits, nine runs (5 earned), and having two walks paired with two strikeouts. Eighth grader, Rian Schlief, stepped into the circle and threw the final three innings of the game facing 13 batters and allowing just two hits, one run, and one walk.

Defensively, the Jaguars had four errors and the Saydel offense took full advantage, scoring three of their five unearned runs on Jag miscues, however, in the fourth and fifth innings combined, the Eagles scored eight runs on five hits.

Offensively, the Jags were led by junior Maddie Vansickle. Vansickle three for four in her at bats swinging for the fences to earn herself a double in the first, a triple in the third, and a double in the seventh. Maddie also reached in the fifth on an error by the Saydel third baseman. Vansickle drove in two runs while scoring three runs of her own. Kenna Scott and Jordyn Rowley also scored for the Jags in the first inning. Scott put herself on in the first with a single, followed by a double from Rowley; both girls would score on Vansickle’s first inning double.

Southeast Valley softball begins their postseason run on Wednesday in Harcourt against the Rams from Greene County. If they win, they could see Saydel again in the second round.

The first pitch for July 6th is scheduled for 7:00 PM and will be a varsity only contest. If the Jags are able to come out with the win, they will play the winner of the Saydel vs. Pocahontas Area Community.
