Jags Beat PAC

The Southeast Valley softball team welcomed the Indians from Pocahontas Area Community on Monday night in Harcourt for a JV/Varsity match up.

The Jags get their second victory over the Indians this summer by a score of 7-2 fueled by strong offensive efforts from sophomore catcher Jordyn Rowley and an impressive outing for junior Maddie Vansickle in the circle.

Offensively, the Jaguars strung together three hits in the first innings starting with a leadoff single by Ellie Nolte, followed by a single off the bat of Jordyn Rowley, moving Nolte into scoring position. Eighth grader, Rian Schlief drove in Nolte on a nice shot to the right center gap to put the Jags up 1-0 in the first inning. The second inning brought two more runs across the plate for the Jags starting with sophomore Leilah Olson reaching first after walking. Nolte followed up with a single. Nolte and Olson would both cross the plate on a hit roped down the right field line by sophomore Kenna Scott.

The next three innings would be quiet for the Jags at the plate, however the defense put in work, to PAC to just two runs, scored in the third inning. Maddie Vansickle showed just how dominant she is in the circle, forcing the Indian offense to hit routine ground balls and fly balls right into the defense behind her. Vansickle got her team out of jam in the fifth when runners with speed reached second and third after a couple Jaguar miscues, Vansickle took matters into her own hands getting all three outs in a high pressure situation.

Maddie’s big fifth inning gave the Jaguar offense the push it needed to plate four more runs across the next two innings. Jordyn Rowley was the lone run plated in the sixth after she smashed a triple to the left center gap. Rowley scored on a SAC fly hit by Vansickle. In the sixth inning the trio of Lauren Eslick, Ellie Nolte, and Kenna Scott would load the bases on back-to-back-to-back singles. Jordyn Rowley would again step up to the plate and deliver, clearing the bases on a three run double smoked to center field.

The Jaguars would hold the Pocahontas offense off in the seventh, not allowing them to push anymore runs across.

The Jags have a quick turnaround as they travel to face the Rams from Greene County on Tuesday night for another JV/V contest starting at 5:30 with the JV.
