JV Finishes Week One of the 22 Season 2-2

The junior varsity volleyball squad finished the first week of the season going 2-2 with matches. On the opening night at Lake City, they lost to the Mustangs of Newell Fonda by the scores of 21-25, 25-15, and 21-25. In the second match of the night, the team lost to South Central Calhoun 13-25, 22-25, and 15-25.

The ladies traveled to Eagle Grove on Tuesday, August 24th and defeated the Eagles by the scores of 21-19, 13-31, and 15-5. On Thursday, August 25th, the team defeated the Warriors of Alta-Aurelia by the scores of 18-21, 21-16, and 15-8.

The girls will need to continue to work on serving and passing the ball. For the week, the girls served at 84% efficiency.  Breakdown of serving was 89% efficient against Newell Fonda, 93% with South Central Calhoun, 88% playing against Eagle Grove and 66% against Alta-Aurelia. The team was fortunate that the Warriors struggled just as much with serving that night too.

Passing the ball (serve receive) is one of the hardest fundamentals to master and the team needs to continue to work on that. Just taking a quick glance at serve reception, the team was over 60% efficient against Alta-Aurelia compared to 40% against South Central Calhoun earlier in the week.
