Jags Go 4-1 @ Gael Invitational
Fort Dodge, IA ~ The Jaguar varsity squad took to the courts at Iowa Central on Saturday, August 30th to participate in the St. Edmond Invitational. The girls finished the day going 4-1 and ended up runner-up in the invite.
The girls opened the day against the Gaels of St. Edmonds. The girls lost the first game, but came back to beat them in three by the scores of 18-21, 21-16, and 15-9. In the second match of the day they beat Pocahontas area by the scores of 21-14, 17-21 and 15-6. In the third match they beat the Lynx of Webster City by the scores of 21-9 and 21-19. The fourth match, Class 2A #10 rated Aplington-Parkersburg beat the Jags by the scores of 6-21 and 13-21. In the final match of the day the girls topped the Bears of Bishop Garrigan by the scores of 21-9 and 21-13. The day concluded with Aplington-Parkersburg winning the tournament 5-0. Webster City ended up third, St. Edmonds was fourth, Bishop Garrigan was fifth and PAC was 6th.
After a busy first week of action, the varsity squad is 6-1 overall, 1-0 in conference play.
The team has good statistics after the first week of play since they played so many matches. Rian Schlief leads the state with 24 kills in week one. She is third overall with serve successes and serve attempts. In Class 3A standings (top five), Schlief leads with her serving skills, while Madelyn Farley is ranked third with 54 kills and Lizzie Thompson is rated fifth with a 96.7% serve efficiency.
The team faces the Mustangs of Newell-Fonda on Thursday, September 4th at home. Newell-Fonda is currently 4-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
