Jags Defeat Panthers
Gowrie, IA ~ The Jaguar junior varsity and varsity teams were victorious over St. Mary Panthers of Storm Lake on Tuesday, September 24th here in Gowrie.
Junior varsity opened the night by defeating the Panthers by the scores of 25-6 and 25-19. The team served at a remarkable 98% with only one miss serve for the night. Mae Searcy was 18 out of 18 with one ace serve. Kalli Thompson had two ace serves. Other teammates perfect behind the serving line were Kayla Field, Trinity Anderson, LIberty Suchan, Mylee Swanson, Avrie Hanson, and Sage Lane.
Kayla Field, Trinity Anderson, Liberty Suchan, and Reagan Pearson each had one kill a piece. Leah Mills had two blocks. Back row specialist Mylee Swanson had three digs. The jv squad's next match is October 1st at Lake View.
Varsity Wins in Three
The varsity squad continued the winning ways by defeating Storm Lake St. Mary’s by the scores of 25-7, 25-11, and 25-17. The team served at 94.4% and had 20 ace serves for the night. Leading the way for ace serves was Madelyn Farley who had six followed by Lizzie Thompson who had five. Anna Corell had three aces while Camryn Lane, Rian Schlief, and Annabelle MacRunnel had two each.
Defensively the team had 24 digs with Annabelle MacRunnel leading the way having seven. All other teammates had either two or three digs each. Riley Carlson had the only block for the night.
Rian Schlief led the team with nine kills and Madelyn Farley had seven. Riley Carlson had four kills, Kayla Field had three, and Liberty Suchan and Lizzie Thompson each had two kills. The team had an efficiency factor of .178 for the night, which they need to continue to work on to get above .300 to stay more competitive in conference play. The efficiency factor is determined by the number of kills subtracting the errors by total attempts.
The team travels to Pocohantas on September 26th to participate in a conference varsity triangular with Pocahontas Area and South Central Calhoun. The team competes in the Bishop Garrigan Invitational (Algona) on Saturday, September 28th.
