Jaguars End September at 12-10 Overall
Gowrie, IA ~ The varsity ended the month of September by defeating the Bulldogs of Ogden in three sets (25-9, 25-9 and 25-13). The team ended up with a total of 29 kills, nine ace serves and 21 digs for the night. Six young ladies were perfect behind the serving line who were Erica Burger, Anna Corell, Maddie Farley, Mila Johnson, Alex Kitchen, and Paige Weiland.
Ellie Nolte had 24 assists for the night. The girls did well with their offense with the team attacking at .382 with efficiency. Addi Hindt, Alex Kitchen and Breck Mills had six kills each. Maddie Farley had four, Ava Brunner had three, Paige Weiland had two and Rian Schlief had one. Mills, Hindt, and Nolte each had a block.
Raiders defeat Jaguars
In a conference match-up, the East Sac County Raiders (21-6 and 9-0 conference) defeated the Jaguars in four games by the scores of 20-25, 14-25, 25-23, 24-26). The team served at 92.3% and had 6 aces. Burger, Corell, Farley, and Scott were perfect from the serving line.
Breck Mills had a season high of five solo blocks. Addi Hindt had one. Kenna Scott had 11 saves while Addi HIndt followed with 10. Other players with five or more saves were Anna Corell, Maddie Farley, Ellie Nolte, and Rian Schlief.
Offensively, Addi Hindt led the team with 13 kills. Breck Mills followed with six while Alex Kitchen had five. However, the team was efficient enough with their offense to score points when needed. The team averaged only .092 for the night, which was less than one kill per ten attempts. It is very difficult to win games that way.
Ellie Nolte had 16 assists while Kenna Scott had eleven.
Bishop Garrigan Invitational
The varsity volleyball squad went 3-3 at the annual Algona Bishop Garrigan Volleyball Invitational on Saturday, September 23, 2023. The girls defeated North Iowa of Buffalo Center (21-18, 17-21, 15-11); Bishop Garrigan (21-16, 21-15); and Garner Hayfield (21-12, 18-21 and 14-16); West Hancock of Britt (21-6 and 21-8); Belmond Klemme (18-21, 17-21); Saint Ansgar 12-21, 15-21).

The varsity squad stands at 12-10 overall and 4-4 in conference. They have played 69 games this season. There are two more conference matches and the Martensdale-St. Mary Invitational on October 7th.
The team is serving at 91.5% overall with a total of 150 ace serves which averages out 2.17 ace serves per game. They have had 576 kills which averages to 8.35 kills per set. As a team they are averaging 8.6 saves per game. With blocks the girls average 1.2 blocks per set.
Just for comparison from last year, the Jaguars during the 2022 season averaged 7.1 kills per game, served at 91.2% efficiency and averaged 1.67 ace serves. However, the 2022 team averaged 11 saves per match and 2.10 blocks per set.
Junior Varsity Scores Two Wins the last Week in September
The junior varsity continued their winning ways by defeating East Sac County and Ogden. The girls had to go to a third game but came back to defeat the Raiders of ESC by the scores of 17-25, 25-19, and 15-11. The girls handled the Bulldogs of Ogden on Thursday night by the scores of 21-13 and 21-6.
Perfect from the serving line all week were Jondyl Warland, Mila Johnson, Liberty Suchan, Liz Thompson, Riley Carlson, and Anna Corell. Farley had five ace serves followed by Warland and Johnson who tallied up four for the week.
Warland had 16 assists while Camryn Lane had ten. Riley Carlson led the week with 17 kills. Maddie Farley had seven and Mila Johnson had four. Kayla Field chipped in five, Thompson had three and Lane and Warland had two each.
