Jag Boys Win Last Meet Before State Qualifying

Using the East Sac Relays on Monday, May 9th as a tune-up meet for the state qualifying meet on Thursday, the Southeast Valley boys’ claimed their fifth straight team title in a row and their sixth overall out of the eight meets they have competed in this year. The Jaguars scored 122 points to barely beat Ridge View’s 118 points. Manson was third with 103 points.

   The Jaguars were led by three first place finishes. Tre Fisher won the 200m dash in a season best time of 23.51, Aaron Graves won the shot put with a throw of 52’ 1.5”, and the 4 x 100m relay of Carl Berglund, Dreyvon Steadman, Kolson Kruse and Tre Fisher ran 45.96 to claim gold.

   Second place finishes went to Kaleb Scott in the 100m dash (11.79) and Ethan Ackerson in the shot put throwing a season best of 48’ 2”. Relays picking up silver medals were the 4 x 800m (9:10.52) of Oscar Hanson, Asa Haub, Cooper Nuss, Zach Thompson, the shuttle hurdle (1:08.92) quartet of Michael Eslick, Jace Hanson, Caelan Oakes-Sudhish and Ty Klatt and the sprint medley relay 1:40.23 PR) of Carl Berglund, Kaleb Scott, Tre Fisher and Kolson Kruse.  

   Tre Fisher was third in the 100m dash (11.93) while the distance medley relay of Drew Corell, Andrew Miller, Zach Thompson, and Oscar Hanson took third place in a time of 4:04.51. Cale VanSickle, Cooper Nuss, Asa Haub and Owen Steck also claimed bronze in the 4 x 400m relay (3:55.60).

   The Jaguars picked up a plethora of fourth place finishes. They were Aaron Graves (discus, 136’ 4”), Andrew Miller (high jump, 5’ 8”), Kyle Johnson (3200m, 12:31.90), Eli Johnson (400m, 59.20), Kolson Kruse (200m, 24.06), and Jace Hanson (400m lows, 1:02.33). The 4 x 200m relay team of Carl Berglund, Dreyvon Steadman, Drew Corell and Andrew Miller also took 4th place (1:41.84).

Carter Ferry (800m, 2:16.34 PR) and Ty Klatt (110 highs, 17.39) finished 5th overall in their respective events while Ross Laron took 6th in the 400m dash (1:00.37) and Caelan Oakes-Sudhish took 6th in the 400m low hurdles (1:05.26).  

The Jaguars were scheduled to run in the class 2A state qualifying meet on Thursday, but the meet was postponed to Friday due to chances of severe weather. State qualifiers will compete at the state meet in Des Moines on Thursday, May 19th, Friday, May 20th and Saturday, May 21st.
