Jags Win 5th Meet of the Season

The Southeast Valley boys’ track team continued their season’s success Thursday, May 5th at the Jim Yunek Relays in Lake City. The Jaguars won their 5th meet of the season scoring 132 points to out pace second place IKM-Manning’s 82 points. Newell Fonda was 3rd.

   Southeast Valley continued to get strong starts in the field events winning the Shot Put, Discus and Long Jump. Aaron Graves won the shot put in 51’ 5.5”, Justin Loseke won the discus with a throw of 139’ 2” and Tre Fisher won the long jump in a jump of 20’ 3”. Graves also took 2nd place in the discus (137’ 9”), Ethan Ackerson took 3rd in the shot put (45’ 3.5”) and Kolson Kruse 3rd in the long jump (19’ 3.5”). Andrew Miller took 5th in the high jump (5’ 6”)

   The other gold medals came in the sprints with Kaleb Scott setting a new school record in the 100m dash running 11.05. He was also part of the winning 4 x200m team of Carl Berglud, Kruse and Fisher. They ran a season best of 1:34.08.

   The Jaguars also got some big points once again in the distance races. Asa Haub took 2nd in the and Kyle Johnson 6th in the 3200m run. Both set season PRs of 11:22.47 and 12:13.60 respectively. In the 1600m run, Cooper Nuss ran a 4:51.38 and Oscar Hanson ran a 4:59.23 to take silver and bronze.

   Kolson Kruse also took silver in the 200m dash running a best time of 23.58 and Dreyvon Steadman ran 25.34 to finish 5th in the same event. Jace Hanson ran a 57.99 in the 400m dash to take 3rd. Carl Berglund also picked up a 5th place in the 100m dash with a season PR of 11.81 while Ty Klatt ran his best ever time in the 110m high hurdles to finish 6th (17.07). Caelan Oakes-Sudhish picked up a point in the 400m low hurdles slightly lowering his best time to 1:04.16 for the year.

   The distance medley relay of Drew Corell, Andrew Miller, Zach Thompson and Oscar Hanson took 2nd in a time of 3:59.24. Corell and Miller teamed up with Berglund and Steadman to win the bronze in the 4 x 100m relay (47.62). The 4 x 800m relay of Oakes-Sudhish, Carter Ferry, Grant Farnham and Cooper Nuss took 5th (9:38.41) and the 4 x 400m relay of Zach Thompson, Jace Hanson, Cale VanSickle and Ben Thompson took 6th in 3:57.12.  

   The Jaguars have now won 5 of their 7 meets on the season. They will compete in the Class 2A state qualifying meet at Ridge View high school in Holstein on Thursday, May 12th where the top two place winners will qualify for the state meet, while the next best 8 finishers from all meets will also qualify.
