Jag Boys Compete at Cavanaugh Relays in Woodward

The Southeast Valley boys’ team competed in their first outdoor track meet of the season this past Thursday, April 6th in Woodward after having their first two meets of the season canceled. The Jaguars finished 2nd place overall in the meet behind six 1st place finishes and five second place finishes. The Jaguars 150 points was 30 points behind Des Moines Christian’s 180 points. Des Moines Christian is one of the teams favored to win the 2A state title in May.

Justin Loseke started the night off with a new school record in the discus. His throw of 165-3 inches won the meet. Justin also threw a PR in the shot put to finish 2nd (46-06”). Teammate Ethan Ackerson won the shot put with a throw of 49-04” and threw a PR of 141-05” in the discus to take 3rd place.

Senior Eli Johnson picked up a pair of gold medals winning the long jump. His jump of 19-05” was his first time jumping since Junior high. Eli also won the 400m dash in a time of 54.63. Jace Hanson broke the 1 minute mark for the first time in his career in the 400m hurdles to win the event in a time of 58.97. He also made his debut in the long jump taking 3rd place overall with a jump of 17-11”

Eli and Jace joined Carl Berglund and Dreyvon Steadman to win the 4 x 100m relay. Their winning time was 46.25. The 4 x 200m quartet of Dreyvon Steadman, Kayden Showers, Andrew Miller and Brady Hanson took silver honors with a season best time of 1:39.50. 

Also earning silver medal honors were Andrew Miller in the high jump (5-06) and Eli Johnson running 24.45 in the 200m dash. Cooper Nuss ran a career PR in the 3200m going 10:26.68 finishing 2nd behind last year’s state champion in the event from Des Moines Christian. Cooper also finished 4th in the 800m run (2:12.17).  

Dreyvon also took 3rd place in the 100m dash (12.15) followed by teammate Kayden Showers who finished 4th (12.17) and Carl Berglund who finished 5th (12.20). Carl also took 4th in the 200m dash (25.32). Oscar Hanson also took 4th place in the 3200m run with a season best time of 10:56.66.  

A pair of relays also picked up a 4th place finish. Those relays were the quartet of Isaiah Ihrig, Colin Johnson, Ben Thompson and Jacob Snyder in the shuttle hurdle relay (1:19.60) and Isaiah Ihrig, Chanlir Roberts, Ben Thompson and Colin Johnson in the 4x 400m relay (4:05.83).  

The Jaguars will compete again at their boys’ relays in Gowrie on Tuesday, April 11th and then at Manson on Thursday, April 13th.
