ISU/UNI Indoor Meet

Several members of the Southeast Valley boys’ track team competed for the first time in the 2024 track & field season in two indoor track meets this past week. On Monday, March 4th, 16 boys traveled to Cedar Falls for the UNI Dickinson Relays in the UNI Dome and then on Thursday, March 8th, 11 boys were accepted to compete in the IATC class 2A State Indoor Championships at ISU in Ames.

Jace Hanson started off his senior campaign by setting the school record in the 60m hurdles on Monday in a time of 9.04 and lowered it to 9.00 on Thursday in Ames. Dreyvon also had a pair of strong runs in the 60m dash, running the 3rd fastest 60m dash time on Monday in 7.51 and lowering that time to 7.47 on Thursday. Kayden Showers also competed in the 60m dash on both nights running a consistent 7.75 and 7.76.  

Also competing Monday at UNI was a trio throwing the shot put. They were Aden Jepsen (38-02”), Ian Brunner (31-11.5”) and Joe Kauffman (29-01”). Seniors Isaiah Ihrig (56.84) and Ben Thompson (57.36) were joined by freshman Owen Nuss (57.36) in the 400m dash. Colin Johnson (26.15), Ben Thompson (26.68) and Kegan Vangilder (31.48) all competed in the 200m dash on Monday while Jace Nelson ran the 60m dash (8.33).  

A pair of relays on Monday night also had a good start to the season. The 4 x 800m quartet of Ethan Tucker, Oscar Hanson, Drew Dorsey, and Logan Bintz ran a 9:55.60 while Dreyvon, Jace, Kayden and Colin ran the 4 x 200m relay in 1:38.25.

Thursday night saw Brady Hanson competing in the 60m dash (7.82) while Dreyvon Steadman ran the 200m dash (24.99). 

The Jaguars also had three more relay teams compete on Thursday in Ames. The distance medley relay of Logan Jaeschke, Brady Hanson, Owen Nuss and Ethan Tucker ran 4:09.10. Dreyvon, Brady, Jace and Kayden ran 46.11 in the 4 x 100m relay and Isaiah Ihrig, Colin Johnson, Logan Jaeschke and Ben Thompson in the 4 x 400m relay finished in a time of 3:45.70.

Southeast Valley will wrap up their indoor season on Friday, March 16th at Humboldt. The Jaguars will open their outdoor season on Thursday, March 28th at Story City
