'23 SV Coed Relays

On Monday, April 17th, the Southeast Valley Coed Relays came down to an exciting finish in the final event on the boys side of the meet as the host Jaguars were tied with South Central Calhoun going into the 4 x 400m relay. Experience runners Isaiah Ihrig, Eli Johnson, Cooper Nuss and Jace Hanson got out to 2nd place well ahead of SCC to cement the first team title of the season for the Southeast Valley boys’ team. The relay time of 3:42.60 was a season best.

Being the seniors final home meet of their career, several seniors stepped up with outstanding performances. Justin Loseke took 1st in both the discus and the shot put (47’ 1”). His throw of 154’ in the discus was also a meet record. Fellow senior Ethan Ackerson took 2nd in both events behind Justin throwing 122’ 1” in the discus and 46’ 5” in the shot put. Cooper Nuss was also a double placewinner winning the 3200m run and the 800m run. Eli Johnson took 2nd in the long jump (18’ 9.5”) and 3rd place in the 200m dash. His time of 23.98 was 6th all-time in school history.  

Other seniors competing on Monday were Jacob Snyder who fell in the shuttle hurdle relay, but got up and crossed the line in 5th place for two big points. His teammates in the shuttle were Isaiah Ihrig, Colin Johnson and Drew Temple.  Nate Scott picked up a pair of 6th place finishes for the JV in the shot put (40’ 7.5”) and discus (115’ 10”). Evan Zeka also threw the shot put and discus in JV competition while the final senior Carl Berglund was unable to compete due to an injury.

Other top performances for the Jaguars was Jace Hanson who won the 400m low hurdles in a meet record time of 58.98 while taking 3rd in the long jump (18’ 7”). Oscar Hanson took 2nd place in the 1600m run, finishing in a time of 5:01.02.  

The 4 x 200m relay of Eli, Andrew Miller, Brady Hanson and Jace Hanson took 2nd in a season best time of 1:36.40 and the 4 x 100m relay of Dreyvon Steadman, Brady Hanson, Andrew Miller and Kayden Showers ran a 46.08 for 3rd place. Fourth place finish in the relays were Brady, Preston Kennedy, Isaiah Ihrig and Oscar Hanson running a 4:02.20 in the distance medley relay.

Others placing for the Jaguars were Kayden Shower in the 100m dash (5th, 11.96), Dreyvon Steadman in the 200m dash (5th, 24.54) and Colin Johnson in the 400m low hurdles (6th, 1:05.46). 

The Jaguars will compete at Manson in their boys’ relays on Tuesday, April 25th and then in Lake City on Friday, April 28th. The Drake Relays are also held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 27th through the 29th as the Jaguars wait to see if they have any qualifiers.
