'23 Emily Markert Relays

After one days’ rest, the Jaguar Boys’ Track & Field team headed to Manson on Thursday, April 13th for the Emily Markert Relays. Facing some of their competition to date on the season as well as experimenting with some different events, Southeast Valley finished 6th in the 12 team field with 61.5 points. ACGC won the meet with 123.5 points, followed by OABCIG with 94, St. Edmond with 90 and Pocahontas with 78.

Justin Loseke picked up a pair of gold medals in the shot put and discus throwing 150’ 11” and 46’ 1.5” respectively. Nate Scott also picked up a pair of medals in the same events throwing 114’ 7” in the discus and 40’ in the shot put. 

Cooper Nuss also picked up 1st place in the 1600m run, running a season best time of 4:48.51. Teammate Oscar Hanson took 5th in the same race breaking 5 minutes for the first time this year running 4:58.21.  

The 4 x 100m relay team of Dreyvon Steadman, Eli Johnson, Andrew Miller and Jace Hanson took 3rd with a season best of 46.02. Ei, Andrew and Jace teamed with Kayden Showers to take 5th place in the sprint medley relay. Their time of 1:44.63 was a season best.

Some other notable performances of the meet were Kayden Showers running an 11.85 in the 100m dash and 24.44 in the 200m dash. Both of these set new freshmen records in these events. Eli’s 100m dash time of 11.72 (7th pl.) moved him to 4th all time in school history and Dreyvon’s 24.21 (6th pl.) is 10th all time. The 4 x 100m relay also set the 7th fastest time in school history while the sprint medley and shuttle hurdle teams ran the 10th fastest time.  

Ben Thompson ran a season best in the 110m high hurdles (20.92) and Colin Johnson in the 400m low hurdles (1:05.14).  

The Jaguars will compete again at Newell Fonda on Friday, April 21st before returning to Manson on Tuesday, April 25th for Manson’s boys meet.
