Jags Defend Title At Newell Fonda

Running for the third time in 4 days, the Southeast Valley boys’ track team headed to Newell to defend their team title from the previous year. Behind six first place finishes, five of those setting meet records and nine 2nd place finishes, the Jaguars easily defended their title scoring 172 points. Host Newell - Fonda was 2nd with 120 points Manson was 3rd with 120 points. The Jaguars also had a JV team compete against the varsity and finished 8th with 18 points.

   Breaking meet records and winning their respective events were Tre Fisher (Long Jump, 20-05.75”), Aaron Graves (Shot put 52-01”/Discus 137-02”) and Cooper Nuss (3200m, 10:51.16/1600m run 4:59.51). Aaron’s throw in the shot put also broke his own school record. Also winning an event was Kaleb Scott in the 100m dash in a time of 11.80.

   Kaleb also finished 2nd in the high jump, jumping 6’ 3”. Kolson Kruse picked up a pair of silver medals in the long jump (20-04.5”) and a season best in the 200m dash (24.20). Other silver medal winners were Ethan Ackerson (SP, 45-05.25”), Justin Loseke (Discus, 129’ 6”), Asa Haub (3200m, 11:45.66), Tre Fisher (100m, 12.20), Jace Hanson (400m low hurdles, 1:01.00), and Oscar Hanson (1600m 5:10.86).  

   Running season best times for the year, Tre Fisher picked up a 3rd place finish in the 200m dash (24.20 PR) and Caelan Oakes-Sudhish in the 400m low hurdles (1:04.50). Oscar Hanson and Andrew Miller picked up a pair of 6th place finishes in the 800m run and high jump respectively.

   Three relays earned third place finishes. The 4 x 800m relay of Zach Thompson, Carter Ferry, Caelan Oakes-Sudhish and Kyle Johnson ran 9:37.80, the distance medley relay of Carl Berglund, Andrew Miller, Zach Thompson and Oscar Hanson ran 4:06.20 and the 4 x 200m relay team of Berglund, Miller, J. Hanson and K. Scott ran 1:39.20.

   Top JV events were Justin Loseke (42-08.25”) and Nate Scott (40-9.75”) who finished 3rd and 5th in the shot put respectively and N. Scott (122-09”) and Ethan Ackerson (118-03”) who finished 4th and 5th respectively in the discus. Loseke and Ackerson both threw season bests.

   Several other JV athletes had season best performances were Jacob Snyder (110m high hurdles, 20.50), Reed Andrews (800m, 2:54.00), Carter Ferry (400m lows, 1:06.30) and Kyle Johnson (1600m, 1:06.30).

   The Jaguars will next compete at Lake City on Friday, April 29th and the Twin Lakes Conference meet at Manson on Tuesday, May 3rd. They will also have a couple events competing at the Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 29th and 30th in Des Moines.
