HS Boys Track hosts SV Invite
The Southeast Valley boys hosted their own two class Boys’ Relays in Gowrie on Tuesday, April 15th. The Jaguars also had two teams competing. In the class A division, Southeast Valley was able to finish 4th overall, scoring 84 points. Webster City won the meet with 132 points. Roland Story was 2nd with 117 points and Madrid was third with 99 points.
In the class A division, the Jaguars were led by winning four of the relays and taking second in a fifth. The sprint medley team of Dreyvon Steadman, Bryce Harrison, Kayden Showers and Alex Burger ran the fourth fastest time in school history in a 1:39.35. Casey Hanson, Bryce Harrison, Owen Nuss and Lincoln Akins took 1st in the distance medley with a time of 4:04.66. Alex, Bryce, Logan and Colin took gold medal honors in the 4 x 400m relay with a time of 3:42.02.
Winning the 4 x 100m relay in a season best time of 44.42 was Dreyvon, Bryce, Kayden and Logan. Dreyvon, Alex, Kayden and Logan took silver in the 4 x 200m relay with a school history best time of 1:33.73.
Individually, Kayden Showers was the top finisher, taking 2nd place in the 100m dash in a time of 11.21, while teammate Dreyvon Steadman was 4th in a time of 11.23. Those times were 2nd and 3rd fastest in school history respectively. Kolton Ollinger picked up a pair of individual bronze medals in the long jump with a jump of 17’ 11.75” and in the 400m dash with a time of 55.91. Casey Hanson also took 3rd place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.16.
Deegan Brandel was 5th in the discus (122’ 2”) and set a PR in the shot put (33’ 8.25”). Colin Johnson 6th place finish in the 200m dash was a season best of 24.36 and Lincoln Akins took 6th in the 1600m run with a season best of 5:03.95. Ethan Tucker also had a 2:20.02 season best in the open 800m run.
In class B, Southeast Valley, ran a primarily JV team against four other schools varsity teams and three other schools JV team. The class B team finished 3rd in the team standings behind GTRA’s varsity team who won the meet with 140 points, followed by the Roland-Story JV team with 78 points.
Ian Brunner was the top finisher for the Jaguars with a throw of 38’ 1.5” in the shot put which was far enough for second place. A plethora of 3rd place finishes for the class B team paced the Jaguars. Third place finishes for the Class B team were Logan Jaeschke was in the 100m dash (11.64), Caden Kaltschnee (400m, 1:03.28), Landon Vote (800m, 2:30.10), and Keelan Wellman (400m Hurdles, 1:02.68). Keelan’s time in the 400m hurdles was a freshman school record.
Three relays also took 3rd place. They were the 4 x 200m relay team of Jacob Paterson, Leo Rameriz, Jaiden Johnson, Keelan Wellman. The 4 x 100m relay team of Jacob Paterson, Leo Rameriz, Jaiden Johnson, Riley Fawcett and the 4 x 400m relay team of Drew Dorsey, Landon Vote, Trennis Stevens, and Logan Bintz.
Blaise Echevarria was 4th in the 400m dash with a season best of 1:03.31 and also the 800m run. Jaiden Johnson’s season best jump of 15’ 10.5” in the long jump was also 4th while Jake Paterson jumped a season best of 15’ 9” to take 5th. Trennis Stevens was 5th in the 110m high hurdles. 6th place finishes were Kyle Eastman in the discus (96’ 11” PR) and Caden Kaltschnee in the 1600m run (6:46.66)
The Jaguars will compete in their home coed invitational on Tuesday, April 22nd before heading to Newell on Friday, April 25th.
