Jag Boys Place 2nd at Home Meet

After the Southeast Valley boys have had their first four meets of the year canceled, the Jaguars had a perfect night for their own home invitational in Gowrie on Monday, April 11th, 2022. Taking advantage of the great weather for the first meet, the Jaguars gave Roland Story a run for the team title, only to come up 14 points short at the end of the meet to take home runner-up honors as a team. Roland Story scored 122 points to win the title, while SV scored 108.  

   The Jaguars were led by four first place finishes. Two of those were by Kaleb Scott, one in the high jump and one in the 100m dash. In the high jump, Kaleb cleared 6’ 9” which was a new meet record, new school record and a Drake Blue Standard which means Kaleb is automatically a Drake Relays qualifier. In the 100m dash, Kaleb ran a time of 11.53.

   In the 400m low hurdles, Jace Hanson got his first career individual gold winning the race in a time of 1:01.21; fourth fastest time in school history. The 4 x 100m relay of Carl Berglund, Kaleb Scott, Kolson Kruse, and Tre Fisher also captured gold, running the second fastest time in school history with a time of 45.18.  

The Jaguars also had a trio of silver medalists. Kolson Kruse set a personal record in the long jump with a jump of 21’ 2” to take 2nd. Finishing 2nd in the 3200m run was Cooper with the third fastest time in 10:30.56 and Aaron Graves took second in the shot put with a throw of 48’ 6.5”.

   Taking bronze medal honors for the Jaguars in the meet were Ethan Ackerson (Shot Put, 44’ 10.25”), Tre Fisher (long jump, 20’ 3.5”) and the 4 x 200m relay of Carl Berglund, Drew Corell, Andrew Miller and Kaleb Scott in a season best time of 1:37.86.  

   Fourth place finishes are Kolson Kruse (400m, 54.31), Oscar Hanson (800m run, 2:17.23 PR) and Cooper Nuss (1600m, 4:51.57 PR). Oscar also took fifth in the 3200m run (11:03.53) and Tre took fifth place in the 200m dash (24.31).

   The sprint medley relay (Ty K., Carl B., Drew C., Eli J.; 1:42.20), the 4 x 800m relay (Zach T., Asa H., Carter F., Caelan O.; 9:27.75 PR) and the distance medley relay (Carl B., Drew C., Carter F., Oscar H.; 4:08.86) all finished fifth place for Southeast Valley on Monday night. The Jaguars scored points in 17 of the 19 events. 

   The Southeast Invitational has two classes with the bigger schools in class A and smaller schools in Class B. The Jaguars had a “JV” team compete against the smaller schools varsity teams in the same meet and finished 5th amongst those varsity teams scoring 46 points.

   Leading the Jaguars in class B was Nate Scott who won the discus in a personal best throw of 131’ 11”. Justin Loseke and Eli Johnson claimed runner-up honors in the shot put and 200m dash respectively in class B. Justin threw 42’ 4” and Eli Johnson ran a season best of 24.40. Michael Eslick in his first try at the 110m high hurdles finished 3rd in a time of 18.84. Freshman Dreyvon Steadman was 6th in the class B 100m dash.

   The Jaguars also had several JV relay teams in class B place. They were the shuttle hurdle (Andrew Miller, Owen Steck, Ross Larson, Carson Joyce) finished fourth. The 4 x 800m relay (Grant Farnham, Kyle Johnson, Ben Thompson, Jacob Snyder), the 4 x 100m relay (Jace Nelson, Dreyvon, Ross, Michael) and the 4 x 400m relay (Cale VanSickle, Grant Farnham, Ben Thompson, Kyle Johnson) all placed 5th for the Jaguars.  

   The Jaguars will be back in Gowrie on Tuesday, April 19th for their coed meet before heading to Newell-Fonda on Friday, April 22nd.
