ISU Boys' Track Article
The Southeast Valley boys’ track & field team headed to Ames on Thursday, March 13th to compete in the Iowa State Indoor Championships hosted by the Iowa Track Coaches Association. To compete in this meet, you had qualify based on verified times from the past season. The meet was divided by classes and only the top 12, 21, 24 or 30 entries depending on the event were accepted for each class. The Jaguars were able to qualify 7 events for the meet held at the Lied Rec Center at ISU.
The 4 x 100m relay team of Dreyvon Steadman, Kayden Showers, Bryce Harrison and Logan Jaeschke just missed reaching the top 6 podium positions needed for a medal. Their time of 45.16 earned the only team points of the night by finishing 7th (2pts) but also set the 5th fastest time in school history (and most likely the fastest on an indoor track).
Dreyvon and Kayden also competed in the 60m dash running a 7.34 and 7.49 respectively. Both times were a season PR and kept them in the #2 and #4 times in school history.
Alex Burger also moved up in the all-time top ten lists when he ran a career PR 53.24 in the open 400m dash. His time moved him up from 10th to 2nd all time on the list. He also long jumped a season best 19-00.5” in the long jump. Alex and Logan joined Casey Hanson and Colin Johnson in the 4 x 400m relays. The quartet’s time in the race was 3:43.01.
Owen Nuss was less than a second off his career best in the open 800m run when he ran a season best 2:12.05. Ian Brunner threw 39-8.75” in the Shot Put.
The Jaguars will compete in the final indoor meet of the season on Friday, March 21st at Humboldt before getting a two week break from competition before begging their outdoor season on April 4th at Story City.
