Boys Track Start Season Indoors

The Southeast Valley boys track team started off their season this past week with two indoor meets. Their first meet was Tuesday, March 8th when they traveled to the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls for the long running Dickinson Relays. At the Dickinson Relays, while the Jaguars competed against schools from all four classes, a majority of the teams there were from class 4A.

Kaleb Scott was the top finisher for the Jaguars finishing 4th place overall in the high jump with a jump of 6’ 4” Kaleb also set the school record for the 60m dash in a time of 7.34. Tre Fisher ran the second fastest 60m in school history in a time of 7.40. Tre also jumped 19’ 5” in the long jump. Carl Berglund set the 5th fastest time in the 60m with 7.72.

Aaron Graves finished 9th overall in the shot put breaking his own school record with a distance of 49”. Ethan Ackerson (44’ 3.5”) and Nate Scott (39’ 7.75”) started the season breaking their own personal record in the shot put. Ethan’s throw put him 3rd best in school history.

Being returning state qualifiers in the 1600m run, Cooper Nuss and Oscar Hanson got to compete in the special invite 1600m run. Cooper ran 4:53.89 and Oscar ran 5:00.67, both just off of their personal bests from last year. Cooper (2:19.04) and Oscar (2:23.92) also competed in the 800m run along with Asa Haub.

In the 60m high hurdles, Jace Hanson ran the 7th fastest in school history in his first attempt ever running the high hurdles. Eli Johnson (24.82) edged Kolson Kruse (24.83) in the 200m dash while Jace Hanson (58.52), Andrew Miller (1:01.00) and Zach Thompson (1:01.84) competed in the 400m dash.

On Friday, March 11th, the Jaguars traveled to the Lied Center at ISU in Ames to compete in the IATC State Indoor meet. Here the Jaguars only competed against other 2A schools and running events had to qualify based on last year’s best times.

Kaleb Scott earned a pair of state indoor medalist honors. He once again jumped 6’ 4” in the high jump to earn runner up honors as well as finished 6th in the 60m dash lowering his school record to 7.31.

In the shot put, Nate Scott improved his personal best by over two feet with a throw of 41’ 11.25”. Oscar Hanson also improved his 1600m run from Tuesday with a time of 4:58.03. In the 60m hurdles, Ty Klatt set a PR with a time of 10.07 which is the 6th fastest time in school history.

Kolson Kruse (19’ 0.25”) and Tre Fisher (18’ 7”) both competed in the long jump. The Jaguars also had several relay teams qualify. The distance medley relay team (C. Berglund, E. Johnson, J. Hanson, O. Hanson) ran 4:00.40. Running 10:09.24 in the 4 x 800 was Carter Ferry, Zach Thompson, Asa Haub and Kyle Johnson). The 4 x 400 (K. Kruse, Z. Thompson, C. Ferry, T. Klatt) ran 3:57.69.

The Jaguars will compete at the BV indoor meet in Storm Lake on Friday, March 18th.
