3rd & Final Boys Indoor Track '24

The Southeast Valley boys’ track and field team competed in its third and final indoor track meet of the spring on Friday, March 15th at Humboldt. The Jaguars competed in the Nielsen Family Indoor meet at the Humboldt Rec Center.

The Jaguars were led by a trio of relay teams that finished 3rd place overall in the meet. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Jace Hanson, Isaiah Ihrig, Colin Johnson and Ben Thompson ran the 3rd fastest indoor shuttle hurdle time in school history finishing the race in a time of 40.90. A second SV shuttle team took 8th place running an all time school best of 44.88.

The 4 x 200m relay team of Dreyvon Steadman, Brady Hanson, Logan Jaeschke and Kayden Showers ran 1:41.44 to also claim bronze in the meet. The quartet of Logan Bintz, Oscar Hanson, Drew Dorsey and Oliver Riehl took 3rd place in the 4 x 800m relay.

Senior Jace Hanson took 5th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.49. He also ran the 7th fastest 60m dash time in school history in 7.74. Senior Kegan Vangilder ran a season PR in the 200m dash clocking a 31.22.  

 A trio of freshmen picked up individual 7th place finishes. These were Casey Hanson in the 400m dash (59.24), Owen Nuss in the 800m dash (2:22.53) and Logan Jaeschke in the 200m dash (25.57). Sophomore Colin Johnson was less than a tenth away from Casey in the 400m dash to take 8th (59.35).  

Colin also led the 8th place 4 x 400m team. Gauge Jones, Ian Brunner and Ben Thompson joined him to run a 4:05.21 edging the other SV 4 x 400m team by a tenth of a second. Running 4:05.33 were freshmen Alex Burger, Bryce Harrison, Owen Nuss and Spencer Peterson.

The throwers also had an extremely good night in the shot put even though no one had a top 8 finish. Aden Jepsen (41’ 5”), Ian Brunner (34’ 5”) and Joe Kauffman (33’ 8”) all had season indoor PRs for the Jaguars. Jepsen’s throw was the 8th best throw in school history. Steven Fisher (37’ 7”), Kyle Eastman (27’ 7”) and Kaden Wellman (24’ 5”) all threw for the first time in a high school meet.

The Jaguars will take a week and a half off from competition before their first outdoor meet of the season on March 28th, 2024 at Story City.
