HS Boys Track & Field @ Roland-Story Coed Invite
The Southeast Valley boys’ track team came out of the blocks fast in their first outdoor track meet of the season competing in the Roland-Story Early Bird Coed meet in Story City. On Friday, April 4th, the boys’ competed against Gilbert, Roland-Story, PCM and Hampton Dumont. While the Jaguars rewrote many of the top-ten lists on Friday, they finished 4th place overall as a team behind class 3A powerhouse Gilbert who won the meet with 139 points. PCM took 2nd with 104 points. The Jaguars 53 points were only 19 points behind 3rd place Roland Story.
Colin Johnson was the lone event winner on Friday, running the 400m hurdles in personal record time of 56.82 which improved his 4th place spot on the all-time top ten list. Alex Burger moved his way up to 2nd in the school record books by taking silver in the long jump with a jump of 20-4”. He also is now 8th best time in school history with his 16.87 finish in the 110m high hurdles.
Several other individuals took 3rd place overall in the meet while running career bests. Dreyvon Steadman ran an 11.57 in the 100m dash, Bryce Harrison ran 54.71 in the 400m dash and Owen Nuss finished the 800m run in 2:09.17. The three bronze medalists also found themselves making the top-ten list individually; Dreyvon 4th in the 100, Bryce 10th in the 400m dash and Owen 3rd in the 800m run. Ian Brunner picked up third place in the high jump (5’ 4”) as well. Bryce also took 4th in the long jump with the 9th best jump of 19’ 1” in school history.
The sprint medley relay team of Bryce, Kayden Showers, Logan Jaeschke and Colin ran a 1:38.42 to claim second in the race and jump to 2nd best time in school history. Colin and Alex joined Casey Hanson and Kolton Ollinger in the shuttle hurdle to also ran the 2nd best time in school history. Their 1:04.80 was just off the school record and good enough for 4th place in the meet. Also moving into the 2nd spot on the top-ten lists was the 4 x 100m quartet of Dreyvon, Bryce, Kayden and Logan finishing in 44.45.
A 1:34.71 in the 4 x 200m relay of Dreyvon, Casey, Kayden and Logan and a 3:40.21 in the 4 x 400m relay with a team of Alex, Owen, Kolton and Casey both finished 3rd overall. The 4 x 200m time is now 5th in school history and the 4 x 400m relay team is 8th.
In the field events, Steven Fisher took 5th in the discus with career best throw of 124-2” moving to 7th all-time and Ian Brunner took 5th in the shot put also with a career best of 41-5” and 9th in school history. Deegan Brandel cracked the top-10 with his discus throw of 115-10”. Joe Kauffman picked up a pair of career bests with a throw of 90-3” in the discus and 36’ in the shot put. Also setting a career best in the discus was Kyle Eastman with a throw of 87-9” and Deegan Brandel in the shot put.
Several other outstanding performances on the night were Lincoln Akins, 3200m, (11:09.44, career PR, 7th all-time) and 800m run (2:21.56 career PR), Drew Dorsey (1600m, 5:42.13, season PR), Logan Bintz (1600m, 5:54.91, season PR), and Kolton Ollinger 110m high hurdles (17.19, 9th all-time).
The Jaguars will next compete at the Jefferson on Friday, April 11th before hosting their own home boys’ invitational on Monday, April 14th in Gowrie.
