Junior High Baseball Well Underway Already Two Weeks into the Season.

Junior High Baseball is well underway, already two weeks into the summer season.

The 7th grade team has defeated Manson-NWW 16-0, Madrid 13-0, South Central Calhoun 5-4, Newell-Fonda 10-3, and Pocahontas Area 7-6. The 7th grade squad also had a 4-4 tie with PAC in a shortened 3 inning ball game in order to get two games in before the umpires needed to be done by 12:45pm. If you were to consider the day as a single 7 inning baseball game, SV would have won 11-10. Either way, it was a fun day of baseball action on the diamond to open up the season. Casey Hanson and Logan Jaeschke have helped lead the Jaguars on offense, with Hanson having a batting average of .667 and Jaeschke having a .750 batting average through 6 games. Jaeschke so far has earned two triples and one inside-the-park homerun. Strong pitching from the likes of Karson Roper, Kolton Ollinger, Casey Hanson, Jacob Reck, Wyatt Goodpaster, and Evan Bintz has really spearheaded SV's early season success. The pitching has full confidence in their defense, counting on great plays in the field. Casey Hanson and Wyatt Goodpaster have both earned a save on the mound, being called upon in close-game situations to secure and save the 'W'.

The 8th grade ball team has already shown solid improvement from their 7th grade season, showing more confidence in their abilities from a year ago. The 8th grade team is 1-3 on the young season, defeating SCC 15-2. They have lost to Newell-Fonda 5-11, and dropped two close, winnable games against Madrid and Manson-NWW, both resulting in 4-7 outcomes. In both games, SV had the lead after great starts at bat in the first inning. The 8th graders are led offensively by Kaden Showers and his .375 batting average through 4 games. Showers also has two doubles and four runs scored. Drew Temple leads the team in runs scored, crossing the plate with 6 runs scored, and Lincoln Akins next with 5 runs scored.

Up next for SV will be a home game vs. Odgen on Monday, June 13th, and two away games at Pocahontas and at Fonda on June 15th and June 16th.
