Junior High Baseball Wrap Up Season

The Jaguars had two double-headers during the week of June 26th, hosting the Madrid Tigers on Monday the 26th, and traveling to Pocahontas on Wednesday, the 28th.

On Monday, the Jaguars appeared to still be in "weekend mode" and came out sluggish versus the Tigers. In the first game, the Jaguars trailed as many as 1-10 after two innings of play, a situation the 7th grade team hadn't experienced all season. The Jaguars didn't give up though, in the 3rd and 4th innings, fighting their way back to make it a score of 7-11 with top of the order coming up to bat. Now in the bottom of the last inning, and with momentum rising in favor of the young Jaguars, SV had runners on first and second base with no outs and the lead-off man Conner Rentz in the batter's box. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, a hard hit ball to shortstop and a delay in baserunning, Madrid turned an easy double play and the Jaguars were now scratching for a two out rally. After the third out, the Jaguars were defeated 7-11, their first loss of the season. Conner Rentz was 2-3 in hitting and Wyatt Blair recorded a solid base hit and also drove in an RBI for his efforts in left field. Dawson Tuel roped a shot down the third base foul line and the ball made contact with third base that helped keep the 3rd inning alive as we scored 5 runs in that inning. A sluggish start also included 6-7 errors in the field.

In the 8th grade game, the Tigers held on to win a close 6-8 ballgame, a game that ended in an exciting diving catch for the Madrid Tigers. The 8th graders had a chance to win this game too in the bottom of the last inning, with momentum teetering right where it could go either way. With the score 6-8, and two outs on the board, the Jaguars had the bases loaded and Kolton Ollinger up to bat. Ollinger smoked a potential game winner shot to left field, and if it gets down the Jaguars are on the move and quite possibly score all three runners on the bases to win the game. Ollinger did what he needed to do, and put the ball in play. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, Madrid made a game saving diving catch and earned the 8-6 victory.  Casey Hanson was 2-2 with the bat in his hands and Evan Bintz added yet another RBI. Karson Roper drove in a couple RBI's and Spencer Peterson had two base hits and 3 RBI's in the contest.

On Wednesday, in Pocahontas, the 7th graders bounced back after their first loss of the season and defeated PAC by the score of 15-2. Noah Nelson got the start on the mound, and with the mound up a little closer playing on a smaller diamond, it took Nelson an inning to find his groove. After giving up 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, and a score of 3-2 in the Jaguars favor, the Jaguars held PAC scoreless the rest of the way. Offensively in the game, Nelson helped himself with a solo home run that was hit to deep left center. Landon Vote added another triple on the season, as well as a double in the fourth inning. Dawson Tuel, Caden Cramer, and Caden Milham all reached second base on a double as well. Wyatt Blair, Carver Peterson, and Brennan Milham all had nice base hits and reached base safely.

In the second game versus PAC, the Jaguars faced a really good team that may have only lost one game all season. The Jaguars fell by the score of 3-13. The game was competitive and close early on with the score 3-2 through an inning and 2/3, but PAC's hitting did not slow down, combining to hit 4-5 home runs over the outfield fence. Mason Bahr and Jaxon Meyer are pretty solid pitchers for SV, and they pitched strikes. PAC was just on a roll, and their pitching was top notch, limiting SV's chances to keep it close. Bahr added a double and a single offensively in the game, while Kolton Ollinger added a base hit.

The Ogden game scheduled for Friday, June 30th was cancelled and the JH season has wrapped up.
