JH Baseball Takes On Ogden

The Junior High Baseball squads welcomed our neighbors to the south in the Ogden Bulldogs to Dayton for a home contest on Monday, June 13th.

In the first game of the day, the 7th graders stormed back in the bottom of the 5th and final inning, scoring two runs in walk-off fashion to win the ballgame 3-2. Going into the bottom of the 5th inning, SV trailed 1-2.  Nolan Fisher started off the 5th inning in a pinch-hit role and earned a base on balls in 5 pitches. Evan Bintz then pinch-ran in place of Fisher at first base before lead-off man Casey Hanson was hit by a pitch to get the potential winning run on base. Jacob Reck then walked to load the bases with Karson Roper coming up to bat with no outs in the inning. Roper connected on the first pitch delivered and roped a line drive into shallow left field, driving in two runs and winning the game with a walk-off single. Roper went 2-3 from the batter's box and tallied 2 RBI's for his much needed efforts with the bat. Hanson went 1-2 hitting while scoring 2 runs in the game. Reck walked twice and had one RBI in the win. As a team, however, the Jaguars were 3/15 offensively. Thankfully for the Jaguars, quality pitching and defense kept the Jags in the contest.  Kolton Ollinger started for the Jaguars on the mound, where he pitched three full innings all while giving up no hits, striking out three batters, and only allowing one earned run. Ollinger only faced a total of 12 batters in three innings, only facing 4 batters in each of his three innings. Spencer Peterson came in relief in the top of the 4th inning and ended up with the win off the mound with the late game heroics by the Jags in the bottom of the 5th. Peterson only allowed one hit, zero runs, and had two strikeouts in his two full innings of work.

In the 8th grade game, the Jaguars faced an excellent Bulldog pitcher and fell by the score of 1-10 in 4 innings. The Jaguars struckout a total of 12 times, with Drew Temple earning the only hit for Jaguars with a single in the bottom of the 4th inning and ultimately scoring the lone SV run. Reaching base after earning a walk were Lincoln Akins, Bryce Hanson, Johnny Gregory (hit by pitch), and Temple. Pitching in the game were Lincoln Akins and Ryan Stewart, combining to strike out 5 Ogden batters.
