Jags Win Opener 20-7

The Jaguar football team started the same way they ended last season with a win over Interstate 35 20-7. The Jaguars have won 6 straight games and have won 23 out of their last 25 games. There was not a better way to start the season after losing 9 starters on both sides of the ball to come out and continue with the success this program has displayed over the last few years. There were a lot of unanswered questions going into this contest and the coaches and fans were able to get a lot of them answered.

I 35 takes the opening drive and gets about 12 yards before they had to punt.

Jags take their opening drive 53 yards to open the season with a TD. This drive was Carl Berglund running the ball and Eli Johnson catching 2 passes from Dalton Crouse. Carl had a great run and was able to score on a 5 yard run and took the lead 6-0. The line did a great job blocking and everyone did their part on this drive.

I 35 came right back with a nice 15 play drive and got down to the 7 yard line but the Jags defense stood strong and held them to a missed FG.

The Jags then put a 16 play 80 yard drive together and controlled the clock for over half of the 2nd quarter. This is the quarter Brady Hanson showed his skills with runs of 3-2-5-2-6-14-4 and finished with a 2 yard TD. The line of scrimmage won the trenches during this drive and then Carl Berglund ran in the 2 point conversion and the JAgs were ahead 14-0.

Both teams got the ball one more time before half but neither could take advantage of it.

The Jags start the second half with 11 play drive and Brady Hanson ran it in from the 4 to take the lead 20-0

I 35 never let up and put a solid drive together and scored to make the score 20-7 and the beginning of the 4th. The 4th quarter was a battle of the defenses as was the entire game. as the Jags finished with 162 total yards to I 35 152 total yards.

Coach feels the line had a great night and the RB's took advantage of it as much as they could. He also feels first time QB starter Dalton Crouse did a great job running things out there and played a very good game to start the season. Coaches also were happy how the defense played some very good football also.

The Jags have to get right back to work and get a few things adjusted as things do not get easier as they take on Emmetsburg next week at home.
