Jag Football Wins Opener

The Southeast Valley team opened up the 2023 season with a 26-8 win over Manson Northwest Webster. It was a week everyone will be happy to be over with because of the extreme heat conditions all week and during the game. It was one of those nights no matter how good of shape the boys were in the heat and humidity really affected a lot of them throughout the night where many of them needed breaks to cool their bodies down and get hydrated so a lot of kids had to step up and play for us to be able to get through the night.

Opening drive started off with runs from Brady Hanson and Drew Temple but SV found themselves with 4th and 6 and went for it. Cale Vansickle hit Ross Larson for a 24 yard reception and then Drew Temple scored from the 1 yard line to take a 6-0 lead.

MNWW ran 3 plays and were forced to punt but chose to try a fake that came back to haunt them. The Jags stopped the fake and got the ball on the 21 yard line and 2 plays later Brady Hanson rushed for a 6 yard TD to take a 12 nothing lead.

SV defense gave up some yards the next drive but held them short on 4th and 5.

SV 2 plays later threw a pick 6 and MNWW found themselves right back into the game. THis is when they gained confidence and our kids lost ours and we started going down 1 by 1 with the heat.

The Jags were able to put a 11 play drive together before half with some runs and pass then Cale hit Andrew Miller for a 5 yard TD and then hit Jace Hanson for the 2 point conversion to take a 20-8 lead into half.

In the 3rd quarter Logan Jaeschke ran in a 8 yard TD and that was the last score as the rest of the game was a defensive battle on both sides of the ball with the heat and humidity kids were just so drained.

A win is a win and we will take it. We have alot of things to improve on and get better at but we will take care of them this week.
