Wrestlers Battle at Gilbert

On Saturday, December 4 the Jags headed to Gilbert to participate in the Gilbert Duals to participate in a five team dual tournament. The Jags got on a roll winning their first three duals of the day but ran into a buzzsaw in a Southeast Polk JV team. The Jags received a bye in the first round of the team tournament, then opened with South Hardin-BCLUW winning 60-15, they followed with a 53-21 win over Gilbert, in the third dual the Jags defeated Iowa Falls-Alden 54-24, and in the championship match the Jags lost 54-22 finishing as runner ups in the team race with a 3-1 dual team record.

"The guys were a bit crisper opening up Saturday morning in the first three duals, looking better on their feet taking people down and working for falls. Against SE Polk our guys were outwrestled in all three positions: neutral, down and top. SE Polk is one of the premiere wrestling programs in the State of Iowa and their kids showed why. They wrestle really hard and are technically really sound. I don't think our guys were ready for their pace. I think it was a good learning lesson, we have to get back in the room and work on picking up our own pace. On the other hand, we as a team took a step forward in the first three duals wrestling well against some good 2A schools. "

Individually, Kaden Holder and Aaron Graves went 4-0; Spencer Suchan, Caelan Oakes, Max Miller, Ty Klatt, Harley Bryson, and Nathon Graves went 3-1; Carson Suchan and Zack Miller went 2-2; Conner Klingson, Reed Andrews, and Ethan Buenting went 1-3.

The SV Jags JV wrestling team saw a lot of action also, wrestling multiple matches and gaining valuable experience. `Caden Kaltschnee(126) went 1-1, Cory Fawcett(126) went 2-1, Caleb Will(138) went 2-1, Gavyn McGuire(145) went 3-0, Kyle Johnson(145) went 1-2, Grant Smith(160) went 2-2, John Klingson(160) went 1-2, Cole Sorenson(160)went 3-1, and Ryan Wicklein(285) went 1-1.
