State Wrestling-February 15th-18th-Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines IA

The end came abruptly for senior 120 lbs Caelan Oakes-Sudhish in his quest to secure his second State medal Thursday in the consolation round. After an opening round loss to the #9 seed Shane Hanford of West Marshall who finished in 5th place, Oakes opened with Carter Liston of Aplington-Parkersburg. Oakes built a 11-0 lead on his way to a possible tech fall or pin when the two got into a scramble with Liston rolling through with a locked cradle. Luck wasn't on Oake's side as the official slapped the mat after time ran out. The coaching staff felt the fall was going to be reversed as they felt time ran out before the official slapped the mat. The call stood on the heartbreaking loss.

Caelan's loss was a hard one to take. The coaches believed time ran out and a second later the ref slapped the mat. The coaches felt he had a chance to battle back on the backside with a shot of attaining his second medal. Oakes finished his High School career second on Southeast Valley's career win total with a 151-47 record behind leader Kyler Fisher.

Sophomore Nathan Graves 220 lbs gained valuable experience in his first trip to the Well losing his first round match by fall to Mason Koehler of Glenwood. In his first round consolation match Graves lost by fall to Sam Pas of Okoboji ending his run. Graves has two years to develop his skills for his chance to make the podium.
