A Couple Jag Wrestlers To Compete at the State Meet

On Saturday, February 11th, two Jags wrestlers punched their tickets to the prestigious Iowa High School State Wrestling tournament held at Wells Fargo Arena February 15th-February 18th with Saturday night culminating in the Finals to crown each 1A, 2A, & 3A champ. Caelan Oakes-Sudish earned his third trip to the Well by finishing as a runner up to top ranked Carson Doolittle of Webster City. Oakes slipped by his Hampton Dumont opponent in the semifinals 12-10 after recording a 11-0 major decision against his Humboldt opponent in the quarter finals. Oakes looks to improve upon his 8th place finish last year. Nate Graves surprised the field by putting things together at the right time earning his first trip to the State Tournament. Graves opened with a 9-8 exciting win against Bunston of Hampton-Dumont moving him to semi's where he pinned Ball of Greene County. In the finals Nate was pinned by a very good wrestler Cherry of Webster City setting up an wrestleback against Ethan Kunert of Humboldt. Graves secured a take down in the first period which ended up being the only score of the match. Kunert rode Graves for two minutes in the second period, while Graves returned the favor riding Kunert out in the third period winning the match 2-0. Class 2A wrestling starts at 1:30 on Wednesday.
