On Monday, January 16th five wrestlers traveled to Ogden to gain some extra experience in the JV tourney. Taelyn Slawson and Oliver Riehl brought home the Gold winning their respective brackets in the four man round robin tournament. Brodey Laughman, Nate Spencer, and John Klingson finished third.

On Thursday, January 19th the Wrestling Jags hosted the Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard and Rebels of Sioux Rapids on Senior Night. Kyle Johnson and Caelan Oakes-Sudhish were recognized for their four years of hard work and dedication to the Jaguar Wrestling program. West Bend and Sioux Rapids opened the night with the Wolverines getting the win. The Jaguars then grappled with Sioux Rapids in the second dual winning 42-12. In the final dual of the night, the Jags dropped a close 46-36 contest. Taelynn Slawson, Caelan Oakes-Sudhish, Kaden Holder, Caleb Will, and Nate Graves finished 2-0. Kyle Johnson, Brodey Laughman, Grant Smith, and John Klingson finished 1-1 and Oliver Riehl wrestled hard at 132.

The coaching staff thought the wrestlers wrestled the most aggressive so far this season. Their inexperience still gets them out of position quite a bit. Kyle Johnson was the most aggressive so far this season, but got a little high while turning his Sioux Central opponent, was reversed and put to his back.

Four time finalist at the Twin Lakes Conference Tournament, Caelan Oakes-Sudhish claimed his second title defeating Kaben Morrow of Sioux Central by fall in the third period. After narrowly defeating Morrow Thursday night, Caelan looked much sharper, controlling Morrow getting the fall with a nearside cradle. Caelan advanced to the finals with an 8-2 decision over Lincoln Wilcoxon of Emmetsburg while controlling the entire match on top.

Sophomore 132 lbs Caleb Will wrestled a strong tournament placing third. Jr. Kaden Holder(126) and Sophomore Nate Graves(220) placed fourth. Sophomore Taelyn Slawson(113), Freshman Brodey Laughman(152), and Sophomore John Klingson(170) placed sixth, and Oliver Riehl(138) and Kyle Johnson(145) didn’t place.

After a couple of solid runner up finishes in the previous years, a new, young, and mostly inexperienced team got their first taste of Twin Lakes Conference wrestling. Oakes, Holder, and Graves are the only returning wrestlers who competed in the tournament, while the six others got their feet wet competing for the first time. Unfortunately, the Jags were without Heavyweight Ryan Wicklein and 160 pounder Grant Smith due to illness and injury, who also would have been competing for the first time.

JV Wrestlers Compete in Algona
