Jaguar Wrestling Season Comes to an End

The road to the Well stopped abruptly Saturday at Webster CIty, who were hosting the 2024 District wrestling tournament. Eight teams: Aplington-Grundy Center, Eagle Grove, Gilbert, Nevada, Webster City, West Marshall, Winterset, & the Jags battled it out on the mat vying for the top two places in each weight class for the right to wrestle in the coveted Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament. Unfortunately, no Jaguars advanced as a first or second place finisher. Two senior wrestlers wore the Jag singlets the final time of their career, 138 lbs Kaden Holder didn't place in the top four and 157 lb Grant Smith gave it a go, finishing in 4th place. 120 lb Jr. Taelyn Slawson, 126 lb sophomore Colin Johnson, 132 lb. Nevein Larson, 144 lb Junior Jayden Johnson, 150 lb sophomore Oliver Riehl, 165 lb sophomore Brodey Laughman, and 175 lb freshman Kyle Eastman competed and didn't place. Freshman Cooper Spece made his Varsity debut going 1-2 wrestling at 215 lbs. A young, inexperienced team heads into the off season hopefully focusing on improving their physical strength and wrestling mat time experience.
