Jaguar Wrestling after the Break

The Jaguar wrestling team was eager to get back on the mat returning from Christmas break wrestling three times in six days for the week of January 6th. On Tuesday, January 7th the Jags headed east to Jewell to tangle with conference foes East Sac County and Emmetsburg and the host, the Hawks of South Hamilton. In the opening dual, the Jags won their first dual of the season with a convincing 51-15 win against the Hawks; the momentum kept rolling in the second contest with East Sac, winning their second dual 51-18. In the final dual the Jags were narrowly defeated by the E-Hawks 42-36, with the dual coming down to the final match at 190, with the score tied 36-36 the Jags had to forfeit the weight, giving six points to the E-Hawks winning 42-36. The team finished 2-1 for the night.

It was nice getting Evan Kuhn in the lineup at 113 and Cooper Spece at Heavyweight which gave an extra two weight we didn’t have to forfeit. Our guys took a step forward wrestling aggressively and staying in better position. Wyatt Blair, Keelan Wellman, Caden Milham, and Oliver Riehl finished 3-0 for the night. Evan Kuhn, Colin Johnson, Allan Summers, Colton Haug, and Cooper Spece finished 2-1 and Brodey Laughman and Kyle Eastman won a match.

After a short turn around the Jags hosted the Earlham Cardinals and Ogden Bulldogs Thursday night, January 9th in their only home dual of the season. The Jags took a beating from two good programs losing 64-10 to Earlham and 63-17 to the Bulldogs. Wyatt Blair, Colin Johnson, Kyle Eastman, and Cooper Spece went 1-1 for the night.

On Saturday, January 11th, the Jags traveled Northward to Fort Dodge St. Edmonds for the St. Ed’s duals competing in a dual tournament whose field consisted of AG-WSR, Britt, West Hancock, Fort Dodge JV, and the host Gaels of Fort Dodge. The Jags finished 2-2 in third place defeating Fort Dodge JV 45-30 in the first dual of the day, and Fort Dodge St. Edmonds 48-18. The Jags lost to West Hancock 54-20 and AGWSR 47-36.

We as a team probably put together our best effort opening up against FD JV. Our guys were confident and aggressive trying to score. In our final dual we had our chances to win but struggled to stay in position in a few of our matches which cost us. Overall, the guys wrestled well. They need to continue to work hard in the room to prepare for next week's Twin Lakes conference tournament.

Wyatt Blair and Colton Haug led the way finishing 4-0 for the day, Colin Johnson, Oliver Riehl and Kyle Eastman went 3-1, Evan Kuhn, and Cooper Spece finished 2-2 and Caden Milham, Allan Summers, and Brodey Laughman finished with a win.
