Varisty Girls Basketball the Week of January 16th

Southeast Valley vs. Manson Northwest Webster

Tuesday, January 17th

Varsity

Gowrie, Iowa - Manson Northwest Webster (9-4) overtook Southeast Valley (4-9) 55-66 for a conference matchup. Southeast Valley led the first half 34-28, but the Cougars battled back in the second half out scoring the Jaguars 38-21 in the second half. .  


Southeast Valley shot 43% from the field, 32% from the 3 point arc, and 41% from the freethrow line. The team ripped down 17 rebounds, collected 15 assists, and only turned the ball over 5 times.  


Kenna Scott led the team with 20 points 7 assists 3 steals, Alex Kitchen had 14 points 9 rebounds, Madison Lane 11 points 3 assists 3 three pointers, Breck Mills 7 points, Jordyn Rowley 2 points, and Halle Steck 1 point.

 

“Even though we fell short on the scoreboard, the team saw a lot of good things that happened during the game. We talked about how well we took care of the ball, we managed our fouls, and we competed throughout the game. It was a night where the crowd was definitely entertained throughout the game.” Coach Mills


Southeast Valley vs. Newell Fonda

Friday, January 20th

Gowrie, Iowa - Southeast Valley (4-10) hosted top ranked Newell Fonda (11-2) for a Twin Lakes Conference matchup. The Mustangs defensive pressure and 3 point attack was too much for the Jaguars with the final score 37-80.    


Individual leaders were Breck Mills 24 points 5 rebounds 6 blocks, Kenna Scott 5 points 6 assists 6 rebounds, Alex Kitchen 4 points 5 rebounds, and Halle Steck 4 points.

 

The Jaguars compete away for all 3 contests this week. Tuesday, January 24th the Jaguars are at Pocahontas. Thursday, January 26th we travel to Madrid. Then Friday, January 27th the Jaguars go to GTRA. All contests will start with JV 4 p.m. and Varsity 6 p.m.  


JV

The JV girls played at Sioux Rapids on Friday the 13th of January.

Cameron Lane led Jag scoring with 11 points, Rylie Carlon 7, Madelyn Farley 6, and Ryliegh McFarland added 4. The girls did a better job of getting open looks and worked to cover the court with only 7 players for the night. The Jaguars lost 28-44.  


January 17th the Jv girls played Manson NW Webster. Struggling in the first half down by fifteen going into the end of the 3rd quarter Jaguars started hitting their shots and improving defensive rebounding. The girls pulled to within 4 points late in the 4th quarter but ended up falling short 32-38. Cameron Lane again led scoring with 11 points. Rylie Carlson and Ryliegh Mc Farland each added 6, Mckenna Osborne scored 5, Madelyn Farley added 4. Julia Eastman and Osborne both rebounded well during the game pulling down defensive rebounds that lead to scoring opportunities.


January 20, Southeast Valley hosted Newell Fonda. The Jags had four different girls who were able to score against the well organized trapping defense. Rylie Carlson hit for 6 points, Julia Eastman added 4, Cameron Lane hit a three pointer and Madelyn Farley finished a layup for 2. Jag lost 15-69.
