Southeast Valley Upsets  Ranked Roland Story

Monday, January 9th

Varsity

Gowrie, Iowa - After trailing the first half Southeast Valley (4-6) overtook Roland Story (6-4) midway through the 3rd quarter and never looked back to beat the Norseman 51-45.  


The team cleaned up on the glass with a total of 35 for the night while only turning the ball over 11 times and only collecting 16 team fouls for the night.    


Kenna Scott led the team with 19 points 10 rebounds 3 assists, Breck Mills 14 points 15 rebound 5 assists, Halle Steck 10 points, Madison Lane 6 points, and Alex Kitchen 2 points 6 rebounds.

 

“The girls had a fun night. It seemed like we did all of the little things right to help us win. We felt that we won the freethrow battle by keeping our foul count down, as well as, turnovers. Our rebounding also helped us throughout the game.” Coach Mills


Tuesday, January 10th

Varsity

Gowrie, Iowa - Webster City hit key freethrows in the final minute to upset Southeast Valley (4-7) 52-54.  


The Jaguars shot 45% from the field and had 3 double digit scorers.  The team pulled down 35 rebounds and had 11 assists for the evening. 


Individual leaders for the night were Kenna Scott had 11 points 6 assists, Alex Kitchen 11 points 9 rebounds, Breck Mills 11 points, Madison Lane 9 points 6 rebounds, Halle Steck 5 points, and Jordyn Rowley 5 points 8 rebounds.

 

“This was definitely a different game than last night. Tonight we shot the ball reasonably well. We just needed to do a better job staying out of foul trouble and keeping them off the freethrow line. We will keep learning and getting better.” Coach Mills


Friday, January 13th

Varsity

Sioux Rapids, Iowa - Southeast Valley (4-7) traveled to Sioux Central (8-4) for a Twin Lakes Conference matchup. After a pretty even start the Rebels pulled away and won 48-72.      


Individual leaders were Alex Kitchen 15 points 12 rebounds, Madison Lane 12 points and 3 - 3 pointers, Breck Mills 10 points 7 rebounds, Kenna Scott 7 points 3 assists, and Halle Steck 4 points.

 

The Jaguars compete at home against Manson Northwest Webster on Tuesday, January 17th. JV tip-off 4:30 p.m. and V 6 p.m. then Friday, January 20th against Newell-Fonda JV tip-off 4:30 p.m. and V 6 p.m.

January 9, 10th  


The JV Girl Jaguars showed improvement in both of their full games at home on Janurary 9th and 10th. On Monday the 9th the Lady Jags played Roland Story and while the girls used stronger team play and were able to move the ball as a team the good opportunities for shots just didn’t fall in the hoop. The final score did not reflect the improvement in defense or rebounding, loss 15-47. On Tuesday the 10th the Jaguars faced Webster City JV. The young Jaguars learned to play against the pressure, struggling in the first half but started to come back in the 4th quarter. The final score was 32-44. Rylie Carlson scored 22 points to lead all scores in the game, Madelyn Farley added 5, Cameryn Lane 3,and Ryliegh Mc Farland added 2 All of the girls on the team are showing improvement.
