JH FB vs Clarion-Goldfield-Dows
On Tuesday, October 15th, the Cowboys of Clarion-Goldfield visited Ted Lyons Middle School field to square off against the Jags on a cool, sunny night. The 7th grade Cowboys kicked off to the young Jags to start the game. An aggressive Cowboy defense held the offense in check going three and out. Likewise, the Jags defense held after a couple of Cowboy first downs resulting in the Jags getting the ball back, starting on their own 45 yard line. A toss sweep play to the right side of the line resulted in Tailback Tristan Hanson getting the edge where he turned on the afterburners and outrunning the defense for a 55 yard TD run. Fullback Wyatt Muench added the two point conversion making the score 8-0. As the Cowboys were putting together a small drive, the defense came up big. The Cowboy QB put the ball in the air where safety Tristan Hanson settled in underneath the pass, picked it and scampered 60 yards for paydirt. Again, Muench rumbled up the right side of the line for the 2 point conversion making the score 16-0 at half.
The second half started like the first with tough, aggressive defenses on both sides of the ball. Midway through the third quarter the Jag offense mounted a drive that culminated with QB Davis plunging forward on a one yard TD run. Muench followed with the 2 point conversion making the score 24-0 in the third. The smash and dash combo of Muench and Hanson mounted another drive in the 4th quarter resulting in Hanson scoring on a 3 yard run; 2 pt conversion no good. Inside Linebacker Boe Davis sealed the game when he recovered a Cowboy fumble late in the 4th quarter sealing a 30-0 Jaguar win. The 7th grade squad records stands at 5-0.
In the night cap, the 8th grade squad could not overcome a strong offensive and defensive line play from the Cowboys, succumbing to Clarion-Goldfield 34-6. Down a few starters, the Jags had players playing new positions but the team gave a good effort even though they lost the contest. The Jags received the opening kickoff going three and out but a low snap on the punt put the Cowboys in good field position. The Jags defense stiffened on 4th down, holding the Cowboys. The Jag offense put together a couple of nice first downs, but unfortunately the drive stopped after a holding penalty on a nice 30 yard gain on a flair pass to Running back Parker Bintz. The Jags were forced to punt starting the 2nd quarter when the deep back from Clarion took the ball on a bounce and sprinted 60 yards around right end for the game's first TD. The Jags once again put together a promising drive but the Clarion defense picked the ball on their own 30 thwarting the drive. On the first play from scrimmage the Clarion QB took a direct snap and rumbled 65 yards down the right side of the field for the score ending the first half.
The third Jag offense put together a time consuming drive in the third quarter resulting in TB Parker Bintz running hard for the TD. The Cowboys then worn down the Jag defense running behind their offensive line scoring two TD’s making the final 34-6. The 8th grade’s record is 3-2.
