XC Competes at Lake City

The SCC Titan cross country Invitational was held in Lake City on Tuesday, October 5th and the Jaguar cross country teams found themselves with some familiar competition. In the boys race, Ogden took the top honors with 63 points, followed by Denison-Schleswig with 88 and TLC foes East Sac with 94 and Sioux Central 136.  

   Southeast Valley’s boys were 6th with 162 points, edging Manson NW Webster for the first time this year. Oscar Hanson once again took the bronze medal in the race with a time of 17:54 while Cooper Nuss earned a 7th place medal with a time of 18:11.

   Freshman Ethan Tucker’s season PR of 20:44 was good enough for 45th followed by fellow freshmen Lincoln Akins’ 21:24 (54th). Spencer Suchan was the Jaguar’s fifth and final scorer crossing the finish line in 21:31 for 55th. The displacement runners were Drew Dorsey (65th, 22:41) and Kyle Johnson (71st, 23:38).

   The Jaguars also saw their first two JV medalists of the season on Tuesday in the JV race with Cole Lundgren running his career PR of 21:43 and Caelan Oakes-Sudhish running a season best 22:08 to take the 11th and 15th place medals respectively. Dreyvon Steadman (24th, 23:410), Jacob Snyder (31st, 24:23) and Caden Kaltschnee (50th, 26:22) helped the JV team to a 4th place finish overall in the JV race.

   Elias Field (53rd, 26:56), Jameric Dalley (58th, 28:28) and Ryan Stewart (61st, 29:58) also competed for the Southeast Valley’s JV team.

   In the girls’ race, Hailey Rees continued to pace the Jaguars. She ran a 26:57 to finish 49th overall. Katie Field continues to be the second runner, finishing in 28:43 to claim 65th place. Emma Gernhart (68th, 30:01), Abbi Tucker (69th, 30:56) and Alexis Peterson (73rd, 32:16) rounded out the five scorers for the girls team.

   In the team race, the five Jaguars combined for a score of 306 for 12th place. Alta-Aurelia, ranked #3 in class 1A won the meet with 80 points, while Pocahontas finished 2nd with 90 points. Denison-Schleswig took bronze honors with 92 points.  

   The Jaguars will compete in their final regular season meet of the season Monday night at OABCIG at 4:30pm. They will then host the Twin Lakes Conference meet in Gowrie at 9:30am on Saturday, October 15th. The Jaguar varsity teams will then compete in the class 2A state qualifying on Thursday, October 20th with the site to be announced the week of Oct. 10th.
