Jags XC Start Season at Home

The Southeast Valley cross country teams started this season off this past Thursday, August 25th as they hosted their own home invite. Several ranked boys and girls teams as well as individuals made up the 16 boy/15 girl meet.

   The Jaguar boys finished 7th overall in the meet scoring 158 points. Class 1A #1 ranke ACGC won the meet with 51 points, while #5 Ogden took silver with 65 points and #4 Saint Edmond was third with 95 points. #14 Madrid took fourth.  

   Junior Oscar Hanson ran an 18:07 and senior Cooper Nuss ran 18:33 to earn medal honors for Southeast Valley taking 6th place and 11th place respectively. Class 1A, #2 ranked Ethan Loutzenheiser and #18 Clay Larson, both of Madrid, took 1st and 2nd in the race while #29 Carson Van Sickle of Ogden took 3rd. 

Senior Kyle Johnson (48th, 21:29) and freshmen Lincoln Akins (60th, 22:18) and Ethan Tucker (61st, 22:23) were the other three scorers for the Jaguars.The displacement runners were senior Caelan Oakes-Sudhish (78th, 23:32) and freshman Drew Dorsey (86th, 23:59).

   Also running in the boys race were Spencer Suchan (95th, 24:43), Dreyvon Steadman (105th, 26:00), Jacob Snyder (115th, 26:40), Jameric Dalley (120th, 27:21), Elias Field (142nd, 33:14) and Ryan Stewart (144th, 35:06).  

   In the girls’ race, Southeast Valley only had four runners compete and thus were unable to score as a team. Saint Edmond, ranked #4 in class 1A, won the girls’ side with 54 points while #9 ACGC was second with 68 points. Madrid came in third with 92 points. Katelyn Brandhorst of Madrid won the individual title in 20:29 and Alyssa Richman of Manson NW Webster was 2nd crossing the finish line in 20:41.

   For the Jaguars, sophomore Hailey Rees was the top harrier finishing the 3.1 mile course in 29:07, good enough for 62nd place. Alexis Peterson (79th, 32:59), Abbi Tucker (85th, 34:15) and Katie Field (90th, 35:55) were all finishers for the SV girl’s team.

   “I thought we had a great first meet of the season. The weather really cooperated for August and the course was in great shape. The team appreciates all the support that came out from the community to cheer them on and a special thank you to everybody who helped make this a great meet,” commented Coach Nuss

The Jaguars will compete on Monday, August 29th at Webster City, before getting some time off before competing again on September 10th at Jefferson.
