XC Competes at Norseman Invite

Sixty degree temperatures arrived with the first day of fall last Thursday, September 22nd as the Southeast Valley cross country teams traveled to Story City to compete in the Norseman Invite. The twenty Jaguars took advantage of a fast course and the cool temperatures to bring home two medals and eighteen season best and thirteen career best times.

The duo of Cooper Nuss and Oscar Hanson once again led the boys’ team by earning medalist honors finishing 11th and 13th respectively. Cooper’s 17:30 was the fastest time of his career thus far, while Oscar shaved five seconds off his season best. The next three fastest Jaguars were Kyle Johnson (80th), Lincoln Akins (84th) and Ethan Tucker (94th). All three ran career best times of 20:42, 20:51 and 21:18 respectively.

Spencer Suchan and Drew Dorsey continued to improve their best times ever, respectively finishing the course in 21:25 (98th) and 21:26 (100th). The seven varsity runners finished with a team score of 199 points in 8th place. Class 3A North Polk won the meet with 24 points followed by Nevada with 72 points and Ogden with 112 points.

In the girls’ race, once again, Hailey Rees dropped almost three minutes from her previous season best time to lead the Jaguars. Hailey finished 59th in a time of 25:46. Emma Gernhart (76th, 27:54), Katie Field (77th, 28:32), Abbi Tucker (84th, 30:08) and Alexis Peterson (89th, 31:18) finished the 5k course with the best times of the season as well.

The five girls totaled 255 points together to finish 9th in the team standings. North Polk swept the team titles also winning the girls with 25 points. Nevada was also second in the team standings with 67 points while Bondurant Farrar brought home the bronze honors with 99 points.

There were also eight boys for Southeast Valley who competed in the race, however there were no JV team scores kept. Dreyvon Steadman (111th, 21:56) Elias Field (159th, 26:53) and Ryan Stewart (163rd, 29:58) improved their career best times while Cole Lundgren (139th, 23:48), Jacob Snyder (149th, 24:41) and Jameric Dalley (154th, 25:54) were only about a minute off their career best while still improving their time for the season.
