XC Competes at Bob Saunders Classic

On Monday, October 10th, the Southeast Valley cross country teams headed to Ida Grove for the Bob Saunders Classic cross country meet. The 20 team field saw the Jaguar boys finish 7th overall and the girls finish 15th. The boys’ side saw Woodbine as the meet champions with 41 points while conference foes East Sac County and Manson NW Webster took the silver and bronze honors with 76 and 110 points respectively.

   Oscar Hanson and Cooper Nuss continued to earn medalist honors. Oscar’s 18:01 was good enough for 5th place and Cooper’s 18:44 claimed 15th place. Ethan Tucker and Lincoln Akins continue to have strong freshmen campaigns. Ethan ran 21:24 (61st) and Lincoln ran 21:35 (63rd) over the 5k course. The fifth and final scorer for the Jaguars was Spencer Suchan running 21:41 (68th). 

   Dreyvon Steadman just missed his career PR running 21:59 (71st) and Drew Dorsey ran a 22:02 (74th) as the displacement runners. Jameric Dalley and Elias Field both ran a pair of PRs for the Jaguars. Jameric went 25:46 and Elias ran 26:17 for their season best.

   Also competing in the boys race were Kyle Johnson (82nd, 22:24), Cole Lundgren (95th, 23:09), Caelan Oakes-Sudhish (106th, 24:09), Jacob Snyder (125th, 25:35), Caden Kaltschnee (131st, 25:51) and Ryan Stewart (156th, 30:00).

   On the girls’ side, Hailey Rees once again was the top harrier for the Jaguars finishing 63rd in 27:23. Katie Field ran a strong 3rd mile to finish the 3.1 miles in 29:38 (86th). Emma Gernhart (93rd, 31:07), Abbi Tucker (96th, 32:08), and Alexis Peterson (97th, 32:36) were the other scoring runners.

   The Jaguars will compete this Saturday at the conference meet in Gowrie. Start time is 9:30am for the boys’ race, followed by the girls at 10:10am and then the junior high races. Southeast Valley’s varsity teams will then compete at the 2A state qualifying meet in Shenandoah on Thursday, October 20th to try and punch their tickets to the state meet in Fort Dodge.
