XC at Lake City

The Southeast Valley cross country teams continue to improve as their season starts to draw towards the end of the season. On Tuesday, October 3rd, the Jaguars traveled to Lake City to run on one of the more challenging courses of the season. The boys’ team had a season high of 4th place overall finishing only behind class 2A ranked East Sac County who won the meet with 36 points and Sioux Central with 60 points. They also closed the gap on 3A Greene County who was third from previous meets.

The girls’ team also continued to improve as a team finishing 6th with 169 points. Ridge View won the meet with 56 points and Denison Schleswig was 2nd with 60 points. The JV boys also had an outstanding night winning the JV division behind four JV meet medalists with a score of 34 points, edging Sioux Central by one point.

Oscar Hanson continued to be a meet medalist, finishing 8th overall with a time of 18:29 while Ethan Tucker earned his first medal of the season finishing 24th with a season PR of 19:27. Carter Ferry and Lincoln Akins, both just missed being meet medalists with their 26th and 27th place respectively. Both just missed their season best with Carter running 19:35 and Lincoln 19:38. Owen Nuss was the fifth scorer for the Jaguars running the course in 20:38 to finish 40th. Also scoring for the varsity was Dreyvon Steadman (42nd, 21:00) and Grant Smith (49th, 21:31).

Katie Field continues to lead the girls’ team finishing 33rd overall in a time of 25:15. Autumn Jones-Popp ran a season best of 25:32 to finish 36th and was followed by teammate Hailey Rees’s 26:19 was 44th. Brooke Peterson (52nd, 27:28) and Chloe Parks (55th, 28:18) were the 4th and 5th scorer’s for the Jaguars. Emma Gernhart (57th, 28:39) and Alexis Peterson (59th, 30:04) were the displacement runners for Southeast Valley.

JV medalists for the boys were Drew Dorsey (3rd, 21:24), Ben Thompson (4th, 21:55), Cole Lundgren (8th, 23:09) and Caden Kaltschnee (9th, 23:14). Abbi Tucker earned a JV medal in the girls race finishing 12th with a 30:07.

Kyeo Augustine (26th, 26:41) and Evan Kuhn (29th, 27:28) also competed in the JV race for Southeast Valley.

The Jaguars will look to finish the season on Thursday, October 12th when they compete in the Twin Lakes Conference meet held at Alta. This begins at 4pm. The varsity teams will look to qualify for the state meet on October 19th when they compete in their state qualifying meet. The Jags will learn where this meet will be held on Tuesday of this week.
