Jags Compete at Lynx Invite
The Southeast Valley cross country teams were one of 17 teams competing at the Lynx Invite at Webster City on Tuesday, August 31st, 2021 on a rather cool August evening. The Lynx Invite was once again a tough field seeing many of the ranked teams in class 1A, 2A and 3A along with class 4A Fort Dodge Senior High.
The Southeast Valley boys were the top 2A school finishing 8th in the meet scoring 216 points. Class 3A #2 ranked North Polk won the meet with an impressive 33 points followed by 3A-#11 Waverly Shell Rock with 62 points and 1A-#11 St. Edmond with 141 points.
Oscar Hanson was the top runner for the Jaguars in the varsity boys’ race finishing 17th in a season best time of 18:16, followed by Cooper Nuss in 21st finishing in 18:29. Seniors Carson Suchan (52nd, 19:57), Zach Thompson (66th, 20:23), and Asa Haub (69th, 20:26) all improved their season best times from the first meet to make up the top five scorers. Rounding out the varsity seven were Jordan Cerwick (93rd, 21:44) and Caelan Oakes-Sudhish (94th, 21:48), also running season best.
The Jaguar girls’ team took 12th place overall. 3A #18 North Polk also was the girls’ team champion winning with 37 points followed by 3A #1 Ballard with 53 points. 1A #10 St. Edmond was third with 113 points and 2A #11 Roland Story was 4th with 115 points.
Freshman Hailey Rees led the Jaguars claiming 72nd place overall dropping almost two minutes off her first time of the year. She was followed by Madison Doyle in 76th place running 27:42. Senior Shelby Mills ran her career best time of 27:47 to be the third Jag to cross the finish line followed by Jayden Gardipee (83rd, 31:22). Also running season best times on Tuesday in the varsity girls’ race were Alexis Peterson (84th, 31:58) and Meranda Hemmestad (85th, 32:11).
In the JV races, the boys team claimed 9th overall with 210 points. The five scorers for the JV were Xander Dorman (17th, 21:27), Kyle Johnson (35th, 22:22), Cole Lundgren (51st, 23:06), Ben Thompson (61st, 23:39) and Maverick Dorman (63rd, 23:34). All five improved their times from the first meet of the season.
Also improving their best times of the year and competing in the boys JV race were Spencer Suchan (64th, 23:35), Ty Klatt (92nd, 26:04), Jacob Snyder (108th, 27:39), Bretton Farnham (113th, 28:22) and Jamie Dalley (120th, 28:43).
Haley Stewart completed her first race of the season as the lone JV runner in the girls’ JV race. Haley finished 54th in a time of 36:15.
The Jaguars will compete at the Greene County Invite on Saturday, September 11th in Jefferson before heading to Panora of the Panorama Panther Invite on Thursday, September 16th.
