Gowrie to Host State Qualifying Meet

Southeast Valley will be hosting one of five class 2A state qualifying meets on Thursday, October 21st in Gowrie at the Gowrie golf course. The top 3 teams and the top 15 individuals will qualify for the Iowa high school state cross country championships at Fort Dodge on Saturday, October 30th.

The varsity girls race begins at 4pm while the varsity boys race begins at 4:30pm. Each team can have up to 7 runners compete in each race.

“It’s an honor to be able to host this meet and exciting to get to run on our home course for this,” commented Coach Nuss. “We host a great home meet at the start of the year, but the SQM has a whole different feel and intensity with state bids on the line.”

The 15 teams competing in Gowrie are Clarinda, Clear Lake, Des Moines Christian, East Sac County, GCGR (Grundy Center), Greene County, Pocahontas Area, Red Oak, Shenandoah, South Central Calhoun, Southeast Valley, Gowrie, Treynor, Underwood, Van Meter, and Woodward-Granger.

Three of the top boys teams in the class 2A; #5 GCGR, #6 Des Moines Christian and #8 Clear Lake and four of the top girls teams in the class 2A; #12 Clarinda, #13 Clear Lake, #14 Van Meter and #16 Des Moines Christian will be here as well as many of the top individual 2A athletes.

“This will most likely be some of the fastest times ever run on our course since we’ve started hosting meets. I would like to invite all cross country fans in the area and communities to come out and support the Jaguars and the other 14 schools attending; it's going to be a great night of competition from teams in the state.”
