6/17 East Sac 6/17 L 8-9 (0-2)

Print Version

Lights in Dayton! The Jaguars took the field for the first time under the newly installed lights. The top of the line lights was in full view as the Jags hosted the Raiders from East Sac. It was a great night for Jaguar Baseball unfortunately the night was not perfect as the Raiders stolen one away from the Jaguars on their first home game. A misplay in the third inning on an easy pop fly allowed the Raiders to continue hitting, and they made the Jags pay as a three-run homer allowed the Raiders to take the lead. The Jaguars would tie up the game off a Zack Miller single which could have scored the go ahead run but a base running error allowed the Raiders to keep it at 6-6. The Raiders struck late getting 3 runs in the 9th which was just too much for the Jags to overcome.

Hitting for the Jags, Caden Larson had himself a day going 3-3 and scoring three runs. Kolton Kruse also had himself a day going 6 strong innings on the mound. Allowing only 1 earned run and 5 strikeouts. He also did his job with the bat as well going 3 for 4 with a double. Junior Sam Hanson had two hits on the night, while Memphis Simpson, Carson Lambert, Parker Garcia, and Jacob Slininger each added a hit along with Zack Miller's huge hit that scored a run and a walk which brought him to a total of 2 RBIs on the night. The Jaguars played well enough to win but just didn't shut the door when they had the chances and the Raiders stole the win away.

JV ACTION:   L 1-9 (0-2)

The Jaguar JV team played their second game of the season but it was a game closer than the score showed.  Pitching for the Jags was Freshmen Drew Corell who threw well but with a sore arm, gave the ball to Sophomore Lucas Jondle who came in and threw strikes which is something the Jag coaching staff as been wanting to see.  Lucas really threw well, got a little sore and tired at the end of the game but that is everyone in this early season.  Hitting offensively the jags only mustered up on run and just couldn’t get things going offensively scoring their lone run early in the game.  The JV team was not in action at Storm Lake St. Mary’s as they didn’t have enough guys to play at the JV level.
