All of the contestants who earned a superior (I) rating that day earned a place at the State Individual Contest that was to have been held at Carroll Kuemper on March 14th; however, that contest was cancelled due to Covid 19. A smaller contest was planned at Manson with attention to social distancing and sanitation of the performance and practice areas; unfortunately, that, too, ended up being cancelled.

Eventually, Manson hosted a virtual State Individual Contest on April 29th, eight and a half weeks after the District Contest, for contestants who still wanted to perform. The speeches given that evening earned superior ratings from all three of the judges.

Parker Johnson     I   Prose

Marisa Jepsen was able to compete in another virtual contest held May 13th by Carroll Keumper. Ten and a half weeks after her last performance, Marisa, too, earned a superior rating from all of her judges.

                            I    Poetry

To end the season on a spectacular note, Southeast Valley was honored with three Outstanding Performers! Parker Johnson's Prose, a piece he had written himself, and both of Marisa Jepsen's performances in Literary Program and Poetry were nominated for the All-State Speech Festival that was to have been held at The University of Northern Iowa on March 30th.

Unfortunately, the All-State Individual Speech Contest was also cancelled due to the pandemic; nonetheless, the performances given by Parker and Marisa will be honored with medals from the Iowa High School Speech Association.

Congratulations to all of the students who represented Southeast Valley in Individual speech this year; the team performed so well under adverse circumstances!
