JV Girls continue to improve

Print Version

JV Lady Jaguars have continued to work on improving their understanding and execution of the game during the last month, January 13 the team traveled to Roland Story. The team struggled to keep composure against a highly competitive defensive pressure falling to 8-27 in the first half.  The second half was lead by Payton Dorsey who hit two 3 pointers. Still the match up play was too strong and the final was Jags 27-RS 55. Dorsey lead scorers in that game with 12, Madison Lane put in 6, Sydney Carlson 4, Mackenzie Lambert 3, and Kyleigh Erritt 2.

On January 14th Clarion Goldfield Dows was the opponent.  They applied a press from the first horn and the Jags struggled to get composure the first couple of minutes of play.  Shots that went up were not falling like we wanted and even though Lambert and Erritt pulled down 6 rebounds each the Cowgirls ended up with consistent scoring.  Alison Bethel had 4 rebounds and Dorsey 3. The Leading scorer was again Dorsey with 6, followed by Lane with 5, Madison Doyle 4, Lambert 2, Carlson 1. The final buzzer found the Jags down 18-46.

January 17th the team traveled to Webster City. The teamwork of Lane, Doyle, Bethel, Carlson and Erritt got the game off to a great start Sytsma, Shelby Mills, Jenna Hansen, and Dorsey worked from the bench to help keep the energy flowing. The team pulled down a total of 16 rebounds lead by Erritt with 6 and Lambert with 4.  The team forced 6 turnovers with their more aggressive defense. The half time score of 15-18 with us down only 3 points it gave the team extra confidence. In the 3rd quarter the Jaguars stayed with in position to win with a 22 -25 score after the 3rd quarter.  Bethel, Doyle, Erritt, Mills, and Sytsma started the 4th quarter. The Jags pulled within 1 at the 5 minutes mark, then tied with 2 minutes to go. The aggressive offensive drive and team work at the end of the game allowed the Jaguars to find their first victory of the week.  31-28. Lane led the scoring in this game with 13, Carlson added 8, Doyle 4, with Hansen, Dorsey and Bethel each had 2 points

January 22nd brought another away game, traveling to Manson. The combination of better rebounding and good shot selection helped the girls reach a slim lead of 16-15 at the half. Rebounds were again led by Erritt with 6, Bethel pulled in 5. The defense again allowed us to take 6 steals.  Erritt pulled in 4 of those. Shots going down for us helped build confidence. Carlson led the scoring with 10 points, Lane added 6, Mills 5, Bethel, Erritt and Hansen all added 2 points.  The JV Lady Jaguars won 27-18.
